182 Engine mount probs

Yep, that old chestnut again!

Well after almost 6 months of hard drivin' my new 182 engine mount has worn and now it has the famous gap which causes the knocking noise when coming off the accelerator in low gears. When fitted from new it solved the problem completely.

Rather than shell out for a new mount every 6 months, does anyone 6 months on, know of a more permanent solution (apart from jamming in some old inner tube)??

I had the same problem on my 54 plate 182 more or less from day one,i took it to my local Reno dealer and got them to log onto this site and view the article about the mount "gap" and the sorted it straight away, but it came back after a few month,i found that if i spray the rubber mounting with some silicone spray the noise went away, don't ask me why it did,the only thing what i could think of was that it lubricates the rubber.

I adjusted the mount so it was tight at one side and put a pice of old car mat down the other, then sprayed it with silicone spray as above. Been OK for ~1 year now, touch wood! Wouldn't bother with the dealer mate, they're generally shite for after sales service :(

Looks like a liberal spraying of silcone could be the trick.
I'll give it a go this weekend and see what happens. Thanks for the info!

I have been unsuccessful in buying a silicone spray :( Can't find it anywhere. (I live in Madrid).
How easy is it to fit an new engine mount myself? I seem to remember that it doesn't just lift off when you unscrew the 4 bolts ... how do you prise it off?

Get some copper grease and stick that down the sides of the mount then get a G clamp or spring compressors and squeese the outside of the mount to it holds the worn inner bit better.

Just for reference ... how do I get the engine mount off to fit a new one? Is it a 5 min jobbie? or axel stands and specialist tools, etc.
