182 gear change light

A question for all you 182 (and possibly 172 - you may have it too): Anyone know what RPM the gear change light comes on in each gear? I cant say Ive noticed it , but then when Im nailing it going up the gear I tend to pay more attention to what’s happening on the road in front of me, strange that! Tucked away in the bottom corner of the instrument binnacle it nigh on impossible to see any way.

I thought the Top gear review of the 182 was fair and pretty much what I expect from messers Clarkson and Co. Ive traded up from a R5 GT Turbo so the 182 cabin is luxurious, plus I dont spend a great deal of time in the boot so the cheap carpet didnt bother me either. For me Stigs lap time and the comments during the lap said it all. It looked to me that Stiggy was enjoying himself too.

not sure as it comes on at different times depending on how warm the engine is, i find that when its warm though its pretty much before it redlines and cuts out! Once you have seen it a few times you tend to notice it every time and is quite useful!

Yeah, it varies with the rev limiter and the engine temp...

I think it comes on about 250rpm before the limiter kicks in!



(and yes, 172s [most of] & Cups have the same daft light)

i thought i had one of these...its was on the spec sheet when i ordered my 182.......had it a while now but never noticed the light coming on.......was actually thinking i didnt have one and was going to complain to renault.......ill look out for it now i know where it is

( i know i could of looked in the manual....but i knind of just got in it and drove....never pay much attention to instructions...opps )

I think when the oil is up to temp the light comes on at 7250rpm shortly before the limiter.

Who needs a warning light with that feckn rev limiter - surely the engine could pull another couple of K without going bang? Third gear would be much more entertaining!

I can assure you that it works at about 6800 in 5th gear as well.

What exactly it wants you to shift to is a good question.

"R" for Race maybe?

The engine could go to about 9k on stock springs before you started to get valves being in the wrong place and sticking to pistons etc.

The RSport ecu lets the engine rev to 8k or something if you want some more revs but I think power starts to fall off above peak efficiency.

The ECU isnt aware of which gear the car is in. The light only tells you that your close to the rev cut of not when you hit max power or should change up for max acceleration.

On the 182 I drove I never saw the light come on with both me and the salesman driving and we both hit the limiter.

looked out for it this morning on a nice open road and it works !....i have seen the light!

its definitely in a dumb place though, dont know why it cant be on the rev counter........

very nasty in second gear,

I have hit the limiter soooooo many times, it is so easy to do when driving hard, you need to change as soon as you see the light, if you just watch it you will hit the limiter very quickly! Just takes a bit if practice
