182 gearbox end cap

  Clio 182
Can the end cap/5th gear cover be replaced on a 182 gearbox with everything in place? Or do I have to drop subframe etc??

Cheers

Spider mount needs dropping , so box sits on subframe , a little bend of the inner flitch and she’s out .

Cheers. So just battery out, undo big nut so box drops a bit? Only looks to need a ball hair more space to get it out too

Did you manage to get the end cap off just by removing the big nut? My end cap is leaking so I need to replace it. I was going to get it done at a garage but if it’s just a case of removing 1 nut I will do it myself.

Wasn't that bad a job to do once started. I done it by the following....

Battery and air filter out
Jack up passenger side
Wheel off
Drain gearbox oil
Support gearbox with jack and wood
Remove lower gearbox mount on subframe
Undid 18mm nut on top gearbox mount, left on a couple threads
Lowered Jack to lower gearbox
Replaced cap/seal
Re-assembled and refilled gearbox oil

Can you not just drop the gearbox oil.
remove passenger side wheel and arch liner
then undo the bolts holding the black shiny end cap
replace the rubber seal with a new one from renault
bolt eveything back up.

Seen it done on a ramp with everything still bolted and everything in place.

The biggest issue you come up against is the oil feed tube in the end cap for 5th gear. Piece of piss if that oil tube isn’t there, but a bit tricky to remove and refit if it is.

Probably could if it was just the seal but the end cap on mine went porous and was seeping oil 🤦‍♂️
