182 hits limiter at 6800 revs? or maybe just below

It that all the time or only when its cold? It can take a good half hour or so to get upto full temp to get past 7k

You're ragging it when it's cold. Let it warm up.

Yep takes mines half an hour roughly to warm up, I don't take the **** above 4k till it's smoking hot

Should be warm enough after 15 mins

If its still doing it when its warmed up fully. Say after 30 mins then it will more than likely be a thermostat problem, which won't let the car get fully up to temperature thus leaving the cold limiter still active. Its a pretty common fault.

Warm up time can also depend on the road - I'm now almost straight out onto a dual carriageway and after v little time I'm not effected by the limiter cutting in too soon. In the past I drove along some country lanes for 5 miles then onto a dual carriageway and always the limiter cut in too soon. The car's done 140,000 miles, same clutch and gearbox so I suspect I'm not doing anything wrong.
