182 insurance for 20yr old lad

Hi all. Ive been getting some quotes for insurance on a 182 and places like direct line have been quoting me £2500. Im 20 have been driving for 2 and half years, with no convictions or claims made so far.

Is there anywhere else i can try. who could give me a cheaper quote?

Im really looking for a 182 to replace mine but the insurance quotes are holding me back.

Good luck is all I can say. I'm 21, 4 years NCB in a low risk (B) area and parked on a private driveway, and I'm paying £1300 (after transferring policy from my last car).

When I was 20 the best I could find was with elephant - £1600. Directline wouldn't even quote me at 20.

At 21 it dropped to £600 (with privilege).

I had 4 yrs NCB.

Any way, to sum it up. Elephant was cheapest for me when I was 20!

The problem is ive always had my dad as the policy holder and then just paid whatever the amount is to make it cheaper. Im currently paying £600 with ICS. As a named driver therefore i havent been able to build up a no claims discount. How does that work becuase ive never made a claim anyway? With NCD do you get a code or something to prove that you've not made a claim?

i think they just take your word for it until you crash and then investigate???

They will normally ask for proof of NCB after you have taken the policy out. You usually have to get a letter from your previous insurance company detailing how many yrs NCB you have and forward it on.

If you were a named driver on a policy you cannot use any NCD. As you were not the policy holder who accumilated the discount.

The new company you go with will ask for proof. This is normally your renewl letter from your previous insurer stating that you have accumilated X number of years.

IF you lie/mislead your new insurer in anyway your policy will be void. (They normally tell you when you ring them for a quote)

Sorry for the hijack, but £800 on a Vee at 21yrs...get in there. You must park it in a safe at night and be limited to 1000 miles a yr! Good luck to you.
