182 insurance in Manchester

  Sunflower Ph1 172
Think that's just Cup's bren. Might as well give them a call, no harm.

Nope, no luck. Funny that they have a 182 on the cover of their website, and won't insure a 172.

Email I got this morning from Greenlight insurance:
Dear Mr Rogers,
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to complete our online application.
Having had the opportunity to process your application with the intention of providing a competitive Insurance option for you, we found from the detail entered by you upon the application that you currently fall outside of the acceptance criteria of our specialist vehicle schemes.
After referral to Underwriters we identified the main reason that Greenlight have been unable to assist you directly on this occasion to be as follows:
We are unable to cover this model vehicle due to our claims experience

Funny enough bren, I had that email the first time round. The two days later they emailed me a quote for Greenlight, which was VERY competitive.

Funny how they wont insure a 172 but will insure a 182.

Would it not be best to just post the postcodes you can insure? Running through quotes takes a long time (and is boring). It'd be much easier if we all knew which were in your YES group and which weren't.

It would depend on each individual risk as we are a broker we have a number of different underwriters. So you may find we can quote different age/NCB levels with various underwriters.

To run a quote over the phone would literally take 3 minutes and it could lead to some major savings especially with the insurance prices in Manchester its probably 3 mins well spent.

Alternatively you could PM me your brief details (age, NCB, Claims history and postcode and I could have a pretty good idea if we could quote and with what underwriter).

This thread was here to try and help people who were struggling to get cover in Manchester so thought id try and help. If people dont want to shop around or even go through a quote process then unfortunately my hands would be tied.

Is this a recent change?

Evening all, i'm looking at getting hold of a 182 in the not-to-distant future and live in Manchester.

I've been shopping round for insurance quotes and so far the cheapest I can get is £1089.

This is declaring exhaust and brake modifications, with 8 years(!) NCB, kept overnight in a residential car park (which has CCTV)

The main contributory fact to the cost is the location in city centre Manchester – if I lived back in rural Northamptonshire where i'm from originally for example it drops to nearer the £600 mark!

The £1089 quote is with Admiral, and to be fair it's not a bad policy as it includes legal cover, courtesy car, protected NCB and only £350 excess. However I was hoping some of you guys on here have maybe had some experience insuring 182s in City Centre locations and might be able to point me towards somewhere who might be able to give me a cheaper quote (or insurance traders on here who think they'll be able to quote cheaper PM me…)

* Both Sky and Greenlight don't cover Manchester by the way and the best Adrian Flux could come up with was £7k!!

Thanks, Chris

Just seen this thread! It's a ballache insuring in the centre, even with proper underground parking. Whereabouts are you? I was city centre but it came under M15 which is classed as Hulme (it's bloody not tho!)

Having the same difficulty now in SK1. Pain in the arse.

Haha, this thread is a blast from the past!

In case this info is of any use to anyone -
despite my...ahem...advanced years (compared to most cliosport.net users), and with currently many many years of 'no claims', I'm still paying £400ish a year. I don't live in the city centre, instead a few miles outside (M28 postcode), but the insurance is stupid. I gave up on brokers years ago, instead I now stick to the usual comparison sites, and swap and change insurers year-on-year, currently with esure, with the few minor mods to my 182 declared. For what it's worth, adding a female family member/relative/friend can reduce premiums.

I have nothing else to add
