182 is not running right :(

It sounds like it's not running on all cylinders, I have the engine management light flashing What do I do! I can handle tools if I know what I am doing so would ideally like to fix this myself!

Very likley a misfire very common problem. Things to check >

Coil Pack (Pull the HT leads out one by one, this should show which if all are firing)
HT Leads themselves
Spark Plugs

A faulty injector could cause a misfire but is unlikley

Plugged into a fault reader, comes up with misfire cylinder one So the garage that I was at wanted £80 for plugs, £65 for coil pack, £45 labour and however much leads would be as they couldn't get a price! I think I might just try the coilpack first, anyone know where i can get one at a decent price? How hard is it to change?

Or should I go for plugs instead?

Rang up for a coil pack yesterday myself, so here are the prices I got might save you some time:

GSF £55 + VAT
Euro car parts £56 + VAT
Renault £61 +VAT

(all genuine OEM)

Got a valeo from General Traffic in the end for £54 inc VAT but that was via my mate in the trade and no stock til 18th Jan. Easy fix to do only four bolts but you may need a thin-walled 10mm socket to undo the back two bolts.

changed the coil pack and the plugs yet it's still sounding s**t. Engine management light is still on Could the leads be at fault here?

Has anyone in the Huddersfield area got a fault reader? Was thinking I could use lead 1 in cylinder 2, and lead 2 in cylinder one? If the fault is then misfire cylinder 2 I know that it's the leads???

Yeah I've used him before, he's a top bloke! I think I'm just going to try a new set of leads

Right ordered a set of leads, picking them up in the morning. If the leads make no difference, what's my next step considering the coil pack, plugs and leads will have been changed to new ones...

you should have at look at the plugs etc before buying bits i would say, then if the plugs look ok then it may point towards it being ht leads etc

It's had a flat spot for a while and I wanted to change these sooner or later. I may as well do the lot while I'm at it. I have changed the coil pack and the plugs already with the problem still persisting. If I change the leads and the problem is still their, what are the options?

Thanks mate! Well I'm fitting the leads tomorrow so hopefully it will be fixed! If not, how do I remove the fuel rail and test the injectors?

The fuel rail guard requires an extension (IIRC i think its an 18mm piece)

Lol no worries. Once the guard is off is it obvious how to remove the injectors? Anyone send me a how to guide?

the fuel guard takes a 10mm deep socket and can use same socket for fuel rail bolts then just get ready to give the injectors a fair tug out as they will be a very good fit!

This is a classic example of how people end up spending more money trying to sort a problem themselves than they would if they took it to someone who knew what they were doing.

The only time I have ever experienced a misfire on my 182, the first thing I did was remove the spark plugs to investigate rather than just buying bits and fitting them in the hope it might sort the problem.

It turned out to just be excess moisture that had built up on the plugs and was causing them to short. I cleaned them up, refitted them and it's been perfect ever since!

Anyway! The leads have been fitted and it works! PLus the annoying flatspot has gone! Must be a combo of new plugs, coil and leads. Super happy! Especially when I took it to a garage and they wanted £114 just for a new coil and fitting.

Well having the brains to only replace the parts that are at fault generally works well for me mate. But as long as you are happy replacing every single ignition component until it solves the problem then good on you!

If you must know, I used to be a club member, but in all honesty I didn't think it was worth £10 to renew seeing as there is so many c0cks on the forum, something I'm sure you know all about.

Cos every so often there's something worth a read and despite people like you (based on your comment above) there are some really knowledgable people on here. :rasp:

If the OP feels the need to have a dig at me about not being a club member to make him feel better about his lack of common sense leading him to replace several parts unneccessarily then he can fill his boots as far as I'm concerned.
