182 Miles

  Campus Sport 1.2
Hi Guys,

People that have bought or owned clio 182's, what sort of mileage would you go up to when buying. I have set a limit of 90,000 miles but to wider my options I was wondering if its ok performance/management/future selling to go over 100k. I have seen a few for around the 113k mark but am sceptical so was just looking for an insight.

Thanks a lot
Max

Engines are still strong at that mileage man.

I'd buy one on history and who's owned it before rather than mileage alone. Mine's coming up to 95k soon and i'd say it's been maintained way better than a 60k random ebay seller.

I set my limit at 70k but my car had had a complete suspension refresh and a recent dyno showed 183hp so didn't mind it was higher, I would say keep your options open and don't set search filters. Look at each car individually, don't buy anything without a solid service history.... and if you do get it cheap

One thing I will say is make sure you see a receipt for that belt change! And factor in the fact that if it's a crappy none specialist garage that did it you might be thinking about paying for it again...

No word of a lie here, one of the 182's I went to see quoted in the ad a recent full cambelt change. After sifting through the paperwork I found a single piece of brand new printer paper sticking out like a sore thumb. Written on it was "Cambelt changed @ 77k miles" then a signature that could of said anything... Just be careful! Not that I am suggesting that would have fooled you haha

Mine has done 104k.

Suppose you wouldn't buy that? 😂

Buy the car that has been looked after the best (with receipts to prove) irrelevant of mileage. I'd rather a higher mileage car that was maintained well, than a lower mileage one which has been neglected.

  dan's cast offs.
the wife's 172 is about to hit 160,000 miles and apart from a wheel bearing that's just started to get noisy it's one of the best i've ever driven.

Untold truth is, despite the engine being strong, and mileage not really affecting them, I wouldn't want to buy one that's below 100k and then sell it once it's past 100k, if you don't want to take a bit of a hit - not too bad on a 1*2 because they're cheap anyway, but there's just this thing a lot of people have about not buying cars on 6 figures, like a mental block, like selling things for 99p - some might deny it's there, but it definitely is - the fact you yourself used the 100k figure is a good indication of this.

If you buy one that's already past 100k, then fine, you already bought it cheaper because it's gone over - slightly smaller market.

In terms of reliability, going past 100k on 1*2s is nothing, they'll go far past that if treated well.

EDIT: Obviously, someone will own any car going past 100k, but if it's a short term thing, like you buy it on 90k and want to sell it a year later at 102k, I think you'd be a little worse off than if you bought it at 105k and sold at 117k.

If you wanna keep it for a long time, the loss is so negligible then it doesn't really matter.

Always buy on condition .. not mileage.

If you're looking to do 30k a year for the next 3 years and make a profit, don't buy a 120k car....

If you do 10k a year and realise these are almost worthless .. buy the best condition one you can within your budget.. use your brain and the risk is minimal.

These engines get better with age. Mostly everything else has been changed by 80k so it's irrelevant.

Mine has done 104k.

Suppose you wouldn't buy that? 😂

Bloody right.

It's pink !

I bought a 45k one... was a f**king nightmare and fell apart.

Years later bought a 109k one and it's been an absolute diamond, now on 121k and running sweet as anything

Mileage doesn't mean anything!

God have you still not bought one yet. Are you the guy that works in Chipping Norton. The engines last for ages, I had one just shy of 160k and the engine was fantastic, used no oil and pulled like a train. Its the other stuff like the running gear and interior that tend to fail before the engine.
People seem to have a phobia of 100k+ mileage so you will see a lot of cars being sold with 90-95k miles as the value and ease of selling after that seems to drop. There is a 64k mile black 172 in the for sale section that sounds perfect for you. http://www.cliosport.net/threads/b-g-172-low-mileage.768886/

I'm about to top 160k miles and its still going strong, I've done 30k of those. I do maintain it though with regular services and it had its belts done last year. Car is in good nick, all but the front bumper which needs a re-paint. Engine is fantasic and still returns 40+mpg

mines on an 04 mostly motorway miles full history and good oils and 98 ron remap from ktec racing.milage means nothing to me its how the car runs and drives and looks.
