182 not turning over

In 10.5years of ownership I’ve not had to dip into this section as far as I know.

But here we are due to the old car doing old car things:

Right at the end of the video you can hear a sound from something under the bonnet. I’ve slapped a new battery on because the one on it was old anyway, however I’m getting the same result.

Am I right in thinking this could be the starter motor fuse or am I just hoping for a Christmas miracle?!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My 182 did that when the starter relay went.

Absolutely nothing when I turned the key.

In the engine bay fuse box, you'll see 3 brown relays. The middle one is the starter, swap that with the top one which is the fan and see if it does anything.

That noise at the end just sounds like the throttle body shutting off.

If it’s not the relay could it be the exciter wire?
I reckon this.

If you have skinny wrist you can get your hand down between the exhaust manifold pipes and feel around for the single wire with a spade connector.
I think its the middle 2 pipes of the 4

I’ve just been out and swapped the relays - no change.

Looks like I’m getting under it tomorrow to check the wiring!

That sound is more like the starter trying and failing than a fuse. Starter motor fuses almost never half work, they usually fail completely. Since a new battery made no difference, check the starter solenoid and the main power cable to the starter for corrosion or a loose connection. A single click or short whirr usually points to a tired starter motor or bad earth strap. Given the age, the starter itself is the most likely culprit.
