hey people

im really looking into getting a white 197 cup or full fat, or do i just stay with my 182?? im really in 2 minds are the 197's worth the money???

Personally i would go for a Meggy 225/R26 if i was going to change to a newer model Renault. I wouldnt give a 197 a second thought, that however is just my opinion. :)

182 has had its day imo. They look dated next to each other, and feel about 20yrs old in comparison ;) Also there is a reasonable difference in price, so depends on budget..........

Agree'd when next to a 197 the 182 does look very dated. For the price difference on used 197's and 225's the 197 doesnt represent good value for money imo.

For me personally, the 197 does not jump forward enough in performance terms to warrant buying one at the moment.

And of course I'm biased but I disagree that the 182's look dated!

Whichever you prefer driving tbh. The 182's more fun, the 197 the better all rounder. No idea why anyone would pick a 197 over an r26.

The worst thing you can do when making this decision is ask on this forum.

Ignore opinions of people unless they own a 197. Drive one for yourself, make sure it has the 2008 Renault ECU remap/update and make sure you warm it up for 5-10 minutes before judging its performance.

I've owned both cars and coming from the older model I can assure you the 197 is one hell of a driving machine!

If you want to know why PM me.

Peace.

I think he does have a point though - if I had based my opinion on one test drive it wouldn't be so good. You need to live with it a while to appreciate its brilliance.

Utter s**te. The opinion of people that have looked at buying one and not, is just as valid. What you're basically saying is only listen to the positive comments. FFS.

Hahahaha...you are the person saying only listen to positive comments, i am saying listen to the opinions of owners. Effectively what you are saying is that all owners are going to be happy with their purchase. That is one hell of a contradiction, given your persistant desire to post negative things about this subject. Keep swearing to yourself, keep posting away Hahahahahahaha brum brum time to get in my ride, turn some heads and have some serious fun! :rasp:

Look into a 200... Test drive one, reviews r it's even better than the other CS's it's fresh and propably going to be the quickest on the track..

IMO..
If u want sheer rawness buy a 172cup
If u want value for money buy a trophy
If u want more luxury and fresher looks buy a r27
If u want uptodate buy a 200
If u want 230bhp (260remaped) buy a R26

There all basicly the same barr the r26 (much quicker) performance wise give take half a second in real life driving, so it's all in taste and standards with what you want when driving..

How is that utter sh*te? You can't honestly think you can judge a car with a 10-20 minute test drive? You have to live with a car day to day to really appreciate it! My car with 9k on, is a completely different animal to the demo i drove with just 350miles on it!

I have come from a 172 Cup, and i can honestly say i'd never go back to a Ph2 Clio ever again! The 197 look's better ( let's face facts, it just does! ) Its moved the game on in terms of build quality. It stops and handles better, and it's as capable as a 182 when you press the loud pedal ( despite some very naive views on here )

It's always going to cause friction this subject, because let's face it 197 are the minority, and 1*2 owners are always going to give the new models a hard time. It will be the same with the 200, and with the megane 250 and so on, and so on. Renaultsport/Cliosport just doesn't like change, so i suggest we all go out and buy DC2/5's, Evo's, or like just so we can fit in?

Remember your test flight & your face after my demonstration round my local track in the Trophy?

The 197 is more fun & more planted down the same route;)

No one that owns a car is going to come on here and say it's not good. No one. Ergo anyone that owns one will say it's the better car. As I said in my original post, 197's the better all rounder, 182's more fun. IMO.
I've driven plenty of 197's, and I'm getting a 200 for a day as soon as the cars available. It's not the car for me, so I'm hardly going to go and buy a car that I don't enjoy because an 'expert unbiased owner' on CS tells me I'll enjoy it after 9k miles!
I partially agree with Vee owners that say you have to live with it to get it, it's a mid engined V6 FFS. The 197 is a fwd hatchback, if it takes that long to 'get' there's something wrong IMO.
Good job it's a big car, doubt the chip on your shoulder would fit in mine;)

So, let me get this right - I have a chip on my shoulder because i don't agree with you? Ok. I'll let you read my post again, as you clearly have read between the lines, and frankly i haven't the time or patience to explain myself to someone who is as useful as nipples on a nun!

You're right about having a big car, and the tiny amount of space that is left from my " chip " on my shoulder, should still house your humour, wit, and personality easily!
