I have both (well wife has 197, I have 182) and I would much prefer the 197. Paid 1k for the 182, and 3.5k for the 197. Mileage wasnt high, but history was limited, so £500 in hand for a cambet etc and your on budget (which was exactly ours when 197 hunting.)
Pros - Driving position, refinement (only just), looks (IMO) (not only over mk2, but over a standard mk3), spec (of course depends on model).
Cons - Price, cold start (jerkyness and lack of power), more expensive parts (generally).
