182 "rasp"..

Hey guys, got a standard exhaust system on the clio, its got a fair bit of a rasp which im not a fan of, replaced the gasket etc between downpipe and CAT so its defo not blowing there, could possibly be blowing very slightly from the joint from iddle section to backbox but i cant see that causing it as it sounds like its from the front..

Any ideas ?

Rob

It will be that join !!!

Cat > Centre Section...

Its the crappest join ever. Had to play with mine so much, even when we thaught we had it bang, started blowing so slightly the noise under accleration is horrible.

that joint is fine, no blowing from there at all... it was downpipe > Cat which is now sorted..

The other place it is blowing is middle section > backbox, new bracket is like another 20 pounds and dont even know if that will sort it :( wanted coilovers but might end up buying an exhaust first by the looks of it, unless there are any other suggestions ?

172/182 sounds gash as standard...the twin exhaust on the 182 was a pointless excerise by reno IMO..

Oh, so true. :dapprove:

The potential was there and instead, they muted the poor bloody 2.0 to having the spine-tingling audio clarity of an asthmatic koala bear, blowing out a raging bush fire...... through a straw.

D.

Its not just mine its a general 182 problem then ?

dunno whether to attempt to ignore it and get the coilovers or an exhaust and sportlines now :(

oh were can i purchase some, and whats it called, my decat blows so slightly but as stated before it sound shocking under acceleration:dapprove:

i used something called fire gum, when assembling my exhaust. only cost a few quid from halfords...its a silicone that sets hard...worked well for my exhaust.

might be worth a try

cool cheers will give that a go first then;)

My 182 has a de-cat with a standard exhaust and sounds equally crap most of the time....rasp central! Decided coilovers were more important myself, and going to live with the noise for now.

I've never found fire gum that great - Halfords also sell exhaust repair putty in a little round tub - that sorted the Vts I had on the de-cat to central section join.

Mines the same- I've bought some holt's exhaust gum that I'm going to give a whirl tomorrow!

well thats why i put (milltek = job done) because you were saying that the centre/silencer section had gone.

i would say milltek and prolines/sportlines. no real need for coilovers unless its a full on track car

I was just curious i understood your post Luke :) are you guys on about the joint between cat and middle section ? ive just replced the downpipe to cat one too lol..

Trying to buy a BTB ive seen but the guy hasnt been on for a few days.

The downpipe to cat is normally fine

the cat to centre section is normally the culprit under hard acceleration. Mine was fixed but then started blowing (real nasty noise) above 4k.... was a tiny hole in the seal, paste had cracked up.

The centre section to back box is normally also fine as the pipes slide inside each other and are only then held by a single clamp in place..... shudnt leak at all.

i hear the BTB's are very good.
i had to replace my standard exhaust system, there were 3 leaks in it! lol.
good luck getting it sorted anyway mate :)

Cheers guys just going to bite the bullet and get a full system cant be arsed messing about and wasting anymore money on the standard piece of crap :)

oh and check the weld joints in the middle/silencer section and the back boxes. i wouldn't be supprised if its blowing from there.

Yeah had a check round there, all fine, just had black marks on the middle section > backbox and could feel the air coming through it aswell, would i need to remove the backbox off its mounts in order to remove the clamp and attempt to reseal it there ? if so im just going to leave it

i dont blame you. much less hassle and a long term fix to get a new stainless system :) i don't think you will be dissapointed once you hear/see it.

sorry guys last one ? will i loose power due to blowing from centre section > backbox joint. ta

More then possible.

My ever so slight blow from the centre = cat join was so small but the power loss felt quite bad.

So yer it will probably effect it.

After making sure mine wasnt blowing now, it feels so much more responsive.
