182 rattle

Anyone have any ideas on a rattleing noise coming from the boot area on a 182?? Its not the parcel shelf ( thats not substantial enough to rattle!) It could be one of the gas struts that hold the tailgate up. Are these a weak point?

Tool kit?

But remember it is a renault so expect rattles!

Try the plasitic trim panel inside the tailgate... mine rattled.

But, its French, youll get more rattles, youll have to live with it!

Call it "character" ;)

Nick how spooky was just going to ask the same question, I look round and it seems to be coming from the rear parcel shelf area, cant figure out what it is!

mine does the same, and i have one in the rear passenger side window area, i just turn up the stereo

No rattles here...i hope i never get them like you guys have already!

But then again...turn the tunes up and cant hear any rattles!

Headrests, my passenger one rattles like a b**ch and im pretty sure the rear ones are as well, il get some foamy stuff this weekend in order to cure it I think!

Mine too!! Sometimes....

Dependant on wind direction, ambient temperature, atmospheric pressure, what colour underwear I have on etc I get a thousand rattles one day, and none the next.....

I went on a bit of a rattle hunting mission tonight - didnt manage to cure a single one!

One of mine sounds like its coming from the passenger-side rear seat folding mechanism - Im going to try sticking some felt of sponge between the clasp and the engaging mechanism to see if that makes a difference. Theres also rattles from the passenger door/dashboard area - I cant pinpoint that one. The radio facia rattles, the passenger seatbelt hits that pillar when not in use, the passenger seat *sometimes* rattles, ....... and so on.

raf182: funny you should mention headrests - my rear ones have only rattled after Id had some passengers in the back. The seem to have rattled ever since they were raised then lowered. Methinks foam will getting used in mine too.

Fair enough its a Renault and you expect some rattles, but this is worse than the 5 year old Fiat Punto I used to have (and thats really saying something!).

P.S. I dont like turning the tunes up; Id prefer to hear the real soundtrack - the engine!

Ive pinned this down to the gas struts that hold the tailgate open. Removed them and the rattle dissapeared. Ive refitted them using a bit of tape where they attach but I havent tested it yet as I had a few beers earlier. If it isnt the fitting its the strut internals, Ive already spoken to the dealer who has offered to replace the struts if need be.

Anyway Ill let you all know tmrow. When I have sobered up.:D

My girlfriends Dynamique is the same - actually feels a lot more solid inside than mine. I put it down to the firmer suspension, low profile tyres etc on the Renaultsport models.

Its the only explanation I can come up with. The Renaultsort models are made at a different location to the rest of the Clio range though.... who knows...

1000 miles, no rattles at all yet.

Keep listening for the first one as I am expecting some to appear after reading this forum. Thought I had one yesterday, turned out to be a CD case in the glove box.

Same here, except Ive done 2000miles (in 2weeks!) and the only rattles are CD cases in the Glovebox.

Cured it!!!!:) Remove the springs thst hold the struts on. Then Remove the struts, Watch out coz the tailgate is heavier than it looks! Put a couple of pieces of tape on the ball joint where the strut sits to pack it out a bit then refit the struts and springs! Rattle free Renault!!!!

I too have been on the rattle source quest.......

For the one at the back I took the spoiler off, taped up the in line connector for the stop light and cracked the light flange putting it all back, obviously the rattle continued...

I have since taken the trim off the tailgate and I reckon it is the tie rod between the boot latch and the release button, I greased the button end to no avail so accessing the lock is next on the list........(unless it is the tailgate springs, hmmmmm....)

Rattle near the front roof pillars, took it to the dealer, got it back, no difference, took pillar trim off and took alarm sensor and wiring off, no difference, put foam tape on all the pillar trim fixing clips, no difference, turns out there is something loose in the drivers side sun visor!

just two more rattles to look at now.....

is it worth setting up a rattle info page with locations and possible causes?
