Youll need a volunteer. Mine was the rear headrest.

Rattles sorted so far;

Trim above glovebox - removed and put double sided tape on inside to hol securely in place - success

Ashtray - Removed and lightly greased, filled any space with sound deadening - success.

Upper dash, heater vent - removed and lighlty greased all joins - success

Passenger door card. -- removed plastic part - re-secured speaker, greased and re-fitted. - sucess

A pillar plastic cover. re-fitted and shimmed with bits of double sided sticky tape lol. Like Blue peter.

Rattles not sorted -

Drivers window when down - mechanical problem by the sounds of it - back to Renault.

Untraceable intermittent rattle from rear. Sound like passenger side rear window area. not easy to look for when driving lol.

You get what you pay for I guess. When I put my CD changer in the boot, i was amazed at hoe easy the trim comes off my Clio.

Renaults have more rattles than early learning fitted as standard.

172-

Passenger speaker cover

Drivers sun visor

Windscreen heater vent

Drivers door card

Passengers seat

Something in the boot area (possibly the parcel shelf)

Too name a few

lol.... I have had all the common ones then !! lol!!

Forgot to mention, ratlling pasenger seat - Renault replaced runners under warranty...

Thing is, if i fix those the farkers will just move somewhere else in the car. They are like little evil spirits

Hi guys, im new to the forum. I have a clio 1.4 and have had alot of trouble with rattling, namley the sunroof, and the vent just below the windscreen. With the vent i just pop it back in every now and again even though it hasnt moved, and the sunroof I assume I can go into any Renault garage and they can have a look at it as its still under warranty. Luckily its not leaking or anything. Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with sunroofs before?

182 Blue, regarding your boot rattle. Spray lots of grease in/around/on the boot hook and where the boot mechanism goes into the floor of the car.

Job done.

The rattles from the rear are most likely to be the parcel shelf, or the seatbelt which is attached to the roof.

I had a passenger in the back and when driving along if you apply pressure to the parcel shelf it stops rattling,

Also the seatbelt im sure rattles i was gonna get some sort of rubber in between where it all meets on the roof if you no what i mean, between the bit that clunks in.......

Rob.

Ps 1 side of the vents which blows onto my winscreen constantly rattles. I have taken it back to renault they only managed to quiten it down so im gonna attemp to do it myself.

The vent one has got to be the most common rattle on the clio. Everyone has it, theres no escape from it. Going to take it out and give it a coat of tape and stuff to try and stop it.

Have had all sorts of rattles. All sorted now tho.

Worst was passenger seat, went in had new runners under warranty

But they scratched the inner sill trim & RS kick plate on sill, & chipped paint on sill getting seat out:(. And the seat still rattled.

So back it went again, thankfully all sorted now:)

If i grab hold of my passeger seat and shake it about it will rattle but if i do exactly the same to my drivers seat it does not rattle, does this mean i have a problem with it, and that i should take it back?

And for those of you that have had the new runners fitters if you do this test does it eliminate this altogether?

Rob.

I got a really annoying rattle from the boot but like dave182 says once the stereo is on 16 it mysteriously goes away!

right thx folks (sorry for not replying earlier but freeserve have just cut me off for some fecking reason, so im on dial up for a while), anyway i had a quick look its not the parcel shelf or the headrests as i took them out, it appears to be rattling around the plastic trim on the boot, thx jon_r for that advise i will have a look at doing what you say whilst im doing the trim.

right how do i get the bloody plastic trim off ???

Windscreen heater vent only at the moment.

I never carry passengers and try to avoid opening or touching anything if I can avoid it. This helps prevent rattles.

Must just be on popper like the rest of the plastic panels. Just be careful when removing it and it should just pop out, but those little sh*ts break really easily.

My advice would be to find the clip and get a couple of screwdrivers either side to leaver if off. Ill check mine at lunch and see if its the correct way

thx for that, i can see just one screw on the right hand side (star type), so the rest must just pop off, like you say though it tends to break them when you pop them off though

my door panel rattles like no ones business. Just on the edge of the window door handle side. garage said its not covered after 2kmiles. Brilliant.

Is it easy to stop the area around the speaker shaking in the back? I want to get some new speakers, so I guess its worth doing getting it all done at once, but in the mean time, I want to do a DIY job So, is it easy to take the speaker covers off and stop this rattling as it feels like im constantly driving with the mrs in a bad mood...ra ra ra ra... and that just isnt what you need when youre enjoying the thrill of thrashing the biatch (- the car).

cheers.

Get some dynomat spray, take the rear speaker/door trims off, and spray-em (but mask the actual speaker grill).

That sorted mine out, and they coped with huge watts with no rattles.

Regards,

Oms.

Hi rwaterman

Yes that is exactly the symptoms i had. New runners were fitted although that didnt cure it, they did sort it second time round.

mine is also rattling like an absolute fcuker from the boot area (172 cup),

sounds like the boot is open, but it isnt, im tearin me hair out, any thoughts??!!

Ive got several of the rattles you guys mentioned. The most annoying has to be the seat, and the one coming from the back. I always thought this must be the belt on the roof which vibrates at low rpm, but havent been able to check that yet.

Another one i have seems to be coming from somewhere in the dash, although its very hard to determine where from. Its not the vents and I cant see what could be rattling around the glovebox, any thoughts?

I picked my 182 up on the 1st of September and so far i have had only two rattles one of which i sorted myself. When no-one was sat in the passenger seat there was an anoying rattle coming from that area,i found that it was the seat belt buckle tapping on the side pillar. The other one is getting sorted by Renault on the 29th of this month,i seem to get a knock from the off side front wheel when going walking pace i.e in carparks.Other than that i am quite happy with the car.

Merry Xmas and a happy new year to you all

I had the same rattle, Mine was the boot lock. I took it back to the dealer and they sorted it. That was 3 weeks ago, now my dash has started to rattle!

my cigarette lighter on my 172 mk2 drove me up the wall!rattled like a motherf**ker!Gotta think meself lucky though as this was the only rattle, everythin else is quiet at the moment!!

Most annoying one Ive got is in the dash somewhere! Could be the vent by the windscreen as someone suggested (its difficult to trace it!). Theres also one from the rear somewhere.

Its fine on a nice smooth road but unfortunatley about 2% of british roads are smooth lol. Id go insane without a cd player. Still love the car tho :)

yeah my passenger seatbelt rattles of the pillar in my 182, I just put the seat forward a little, thats a niggling little one eh.

Theres some kind of rattle from my glove box and I can hear a screw moving around in my tailgate - yes inside the tailgate! Yeah like my dad always says turn the volume up on your stereo.

In a perfect world Id fix it, but cant be bothered, gives the car some character! Well in a perfect world maybe Renaults wouldnt have rattles?!
