182 Running rough and Anti Pollution Light On

  Clio Sport 182 Cup
Hi All,

I have a 182 it generally seems pretty good but has a few running faults listed below any help or guidance would be greatly received.

1. Runs rough under normal driving conditions missing and acceleration is irratic.
2. When the weather is warm 18 Degrees Celsious plus it will start then stall instantly then when restarted will run rough for a about 3 or 4 minutes until up to full temperature.
3. Anti pollution light has just illuminated within last couple of days.
4. Runs a bit irratic on idle hot or cold.

Could anyone please assist with ideas as am reasonably handy working on bits, or if too complicated a good place to take it too near Southend,

Many Thanks
Gary

Hi All,

Sorry for posting straight out.

I have owned my 182 Cup for about a month now and am generally very happy with it, after reading great reviews wanted something as light as possible thats fairly quick.

A big change from my Saxo VTS which was great cheap fun had for 3 years and never missed a beat.

Any help from any one in relation to my first post would be great.

Many Thanks

be cheeky for a first post, how about saying hello, etc

I believe he did say Hello?!?!?!?

Sounds like you could have a dodgy Lambda mate, get a friend with a cheap code reader to have a look, should give you a fault code and go from there :)

Thanks for quick reply,

It was running rough as described for about 3 weeks before the light came on.

Do the 182's run a bit rough in general from cold as the posts seem to point this way until warmed up?

Cheers

They run like s**t from cold on the standard engine map, for about a 5 to 10 mins from my experience. The enigine light is defiantly pointing out a problem though, get it plugged into a code reader mate and it should tell you straight away the problem causing it...

On a side note, how did the VTS compare to the 182 mate? I'm half tempted to go the other way, given the fact they are now dirt cheap, and have £3K in my back pocket lol

Thanks for the advice Matt,

Has put my mind at rest, will get it diagnosed.

The Saxo VTS was such good fun, I had it for just over 3 years did 25k in it.

The fact that they only weigh 925kg makes them really good fun, without a doubt the quickest car i've ever had in first gear. With 4 brand new Yokohama sport tyres on it the grip was simply amazing, the chassis isn't as refined and sharp as the 182 and the brakes on the VTS are terrible but simple mods can sort the brakes. I really miss my Saxo, I know it sounds crazy but it really looked after me, returning 48mpg on a run, and about 38mpg combined it used to embarass most large cars and it was easy to push the car hard as it's limits are found more easily, where as I reckon if you took the 182 to it's limits the damage would be a lot more catasrophic!

Was very sad when I sold mine as seem to be having endless problems with the Clio, perhaps i'm hoping they are just teething issues and once ironed out I will get as much enjoyment out of it as the VTS.

I would highly recommend buying one, I took out one mate in it who owned a Golf VR6 an Audi A4 Sline 2l turbo, a Civic Type R and a Clio 197 and he thought the VTS was excellent he couldn't believe how quick it was.

They are rapid little things arent they. My mate had a ph1 1999 VTS, all it had was an open green filter and a decat - it was rapid. Easily kept up with a 182 upto high speeds. Really considering one actually.

I had a few VTR's many years ago and love the handling after a slight drop.

Yeah had a VTR myself thought that was great, just didn't have the top end the VTS has in the rev range.

Probably agree about the acceleration, in the right conditions with a good start I reckon it would keep up with the 182 to about 70mph, i've noticed the power in my 182 appears to be strongest in 3rd and 4th gear and has a lot more torque at lower revs.

Funny you should say how quick the VTS can be when it's tuned, when I first got it had a little tustle with a tuned VTS and a Zetec S we left the fiesta for dust and the tuned VTS was crazy quick he probably had about 8 car lengths on me to 80mph.

Noticed a real gem of a VTS on ebay about 2 weeks ago when I was selling mine, about 34k on clock mint for roughly £3,500, was nearly tempted myself to pass on the 182 lose a few hundred quid and go for that instead, but decided to stick it out get

Yeah there is a lad on here who comes to some of the Yorkshire meets with an Citroen AX running the same engine as the later VTS. It has camms, manifold, full decat'd exhaust and a map, the thing is super fast. Not one of the 182's on the meet could get anywhere near to the thing lol

Crazy when you can pick a 2002 ish VTS up on say 60K miles for £1500....
