182 stainless steel exhausts and insurance!

  Clio 182 cup'd
As the 182 exhaust is well known to rot and fall to pieces, and a replacement is £700ish from Renault, most people upgrade to stainless steel.

So do people tell their insurance about it or would it not matter?

Or has anyone ever had a problem with this when trying to make a claim?

Thanks

99% of the time there would be no bother but the other 1% and the time you do crash its bye bye insurance so declare it bud

Depends on exactly what you replace it with.

A stainless steel exhaust that follows the original exhaust design could be argued to be a pattern part, and so not need declaring.

However if it doesnt follow the original design, its aftermarket, and so needs declaring.

There is certainly room to argue it, and of cause, if you bought the car with it on, you can argue you didnt realise it was aftermarket.

what about this. my insurance policy lets me add mods aslong as they dont affect the bhp. obviously the clio wont have 182 horses as its 5 years old, so if i had a rolling road print out of it standard with a stainless steel exhaust and the bhp doesnt reach the 182 then would this affect the insurance?

182. Who are your insurers? Some insurers say as yours has, but then have fixed ratings for things like exhausts.

I declared both my exhaust and the Eibach springs and they each added around £20 to the policy.

You might get away with it, but for £40ish notes, I wouldn't take the risk personally. As said, some insurers are far more mod friendly and might not even charge you anything at all.

A formula that is 99.9% right for most people.

aftermarket exhaust cost + insurance premium cost < brand new standard system from renault.

  None
I had a stainless system built for me last year which cost about £700 including sports cat so when you consider the standard exhaust is not far off that price it's well worth it but always tell your insurance for something like that, i'm with esure and they charged me an extra £70 for the exhaust but they are not very good at modded cars so i'll probably change to flux or brentacre this year.

I have always declared mods, direct line hated them and upped my excess to £1k just switched to Greenlight and its now down to £250 and have a slightly cheaper premium :approve:

Brentacre are good, exhausts and induction kits included under cosmetic mods and so no charge whatsoever :D

brilliant. they seem to get better and better and every time i have phoned they have always answered straight away unlike a load of others who make you wait in ques all the time
