182 to Focus RS!

Wow! I just sold my 182 last week, and have upgraded to a slightly older 52 plate FRS. The difference is unbelievable. I loved my 182 but felt compelled to come on here and thoroughly recommend the FRS to all 172/182 owners as it seems the natural upgrade. The handling is ridiculously good (even better than my old 182!). Not only this, but the acceleration in comparison to my 182 is immense. I dont notice it so much to 60 (although it is faster), but the mid range is in another league. One of my friends has a 182 as well and the way that i can pull away from him through the gears is comedy. Im not sure if mine has been chipped or not but it is MUCH faster than my clio ever was, and you get loads of respect driving it!. With prices coming down on the FRS, anyone thinking of changing will be impressed im sure!

I like them but a mate of mine has one and its been a right pain for him.

I was driving it when one of the coolant pipes blew off due to a retaining clip never being correctly fitted at the factory. Hes also had numerous issues regarding ECU faults, oh and his boot has secured itself closed lol.

Other than those fairly easily rectifiable faults its a blinding car, bit too much power for a FWD imo as its almost impossible not to light up the tyres with the serious bags of torque available. With an exhaust, IK and bluefin his is running 240bhp and 365nm torque!

Thats a good move onwards.

I do like fords still,if only they made a few more models like this

Its a superb machine, although the new Focus ST is apprently (if you believe Ford) faster round the ring. I prefer the looks of proper RS though.

the new ST is prob quicker but is more of a LCR type car. Motorway cruiser IMO of course where the RS is a bit more un refined! All speculative having not yet driven a new ST i must add!

i was told the insurance group was 16 the same as the clio

Ive had a play with an RS on a twisty road. There wasnt a lot in it to be honest. Although I dont know how good a driver he was or how commited he was through bends, he defo was pulling a couple of car lengths when it was pedal-time. When it came to straights I was mashing the pedal trying to keep up - but he wasnt pulling away significantly. Its what Id class as a fun beating -another (better) 182 driver may have got a better result.

Basically I got beat by the better car/driver, but it wasnt a smoking, and I was glad to participate

there same bhp/tonne as a 182. as owner of both 172 an FRS id def say a well driven frs will be faster than a well driven clio but that should be expected for the extra diffs an power etc

Same bhp/ton maybe, but the blower gives a huge torque advnatage I would imagine? I certainly struggled to make an impact on this guy when it came time to mash the pedal onto a straight. Although he didnt really pull away to the extent that hed have been pleased...infact he was probably pissed that an orange Clio was so close to his bumper.

The RS was quicker no doubt, but I didnt have a red face. Infact Id like to think he was pretty gutted that I was still on his tail after several miles.

ive experienced a frs and it was way quicker accelerating but when in the straight,at high speed there wasnt much between the two at all
