There may have been a similar thread to this before...can't find it though. Was wondering which is quicker...the 182 or type-r. I have a feeling that there is probably is not much between them
For god sake, don't people use the search function.

It's been done about 100 times now.

  MK2 Audi TT - 2.0T dsg.
Both cool cars though. I test drove the CTR and liked it, but not as much as the 182.

CTR gearbox is fantastic, seats are pretty special, i drive my mates frequently not much in it until silly speeds then they will pull!

Both good cars, would love a CTR but the 182 was easier to insure at 21 with ONCB etc.

Will defo be looking into JDM CTR or Teg DC5 over the next year or two!!

Similar to 85/90ish then the CTR will start to pull away, but hardly like a bullet out a gun.. LOL
But been done 1000000000000000000000000 times before..
You're always going to get people sayin "I've beaten CTR's", "I've mothered 182's".. Blah de blah.. But you very rarely get two drivers of same ability come across each other.. So the stories will always vary.. But on the whole, the CTR will eventually pull away.. End of.. But a well driven 182 will give it a head ache.. That's for sure!

On the subject of the gearbox, I think I have mentioned before that my mate met up with the person that bought his CTR (that he px'd with Honda for an S2k) and it turned out the gearbox went on it not long after he bought it - this on a car that had about 35k on the clock. I believe Honda paid to repair it which was lucky for the kid.

This was the mate that paid £11k for the car from Honda Bristol and got £8k when he px'd it for an S2k - having only had the CTR 3 months and one or two thousand miles. Thats what I call depreciation. This was despite paying over the odds for the S2k so the poor px was hardly compensating for a stunning deal on the next car. Big advert for Honda Bristol there.

I'd pay £8k for a three year old CTR but only from a dealer with a dealer warranty as I have seen the problems my mate had with his. Indeed I heard through the grape vine that an ex work mate of mine blew the engine on his.

I'd pay £6k for a similar aged 182 once they get that old and only then if it had 20k on the clock and a FDSH.

if you buy from a dealer, and then p/ex a few months later, you are never going to get anywhere near what you paid for it anyway. maybe he should have been patient and sold it privately, actually getting nearer to the cars real value! sounds like he needs a lesson in car buying/selling as he got shafted both ends! ;)

Beat me to it.. Couldn't of put it better myself mate... That's the guys fault, noone else's...
Just to add.. My CTR was on it's original Gearbox when it went back and had done a HARD 106,000 miles.. Best gearbox on the market IMO..

Perhaps they should divert a nano-fraction of their energy into searching forums better then instead of just creating a new thread that's been done to death?

Of course owners are saying the car is worth 10k to 11k and the dealer is saying its worth 8k as a PX.

What people buying a car have to consider is whether or not they are prepared to sell private at the end of it. I know many people that don't want to go through the aggro of having test pilots and tyre kickers ringing up at all hours and then trying to convince a complete stranger that it would be a good idea to hand over £11000 for a used car with zero warranty. Then you have the aggro of going without a car in between selling your car and getting a new one as not everyone has the capital to buy the new car first.

I'd say the majority prefer to px and then you get what Honda Bristol say its worth...

In that sense my Clio won't be worth 8k private, it will be more like £5 to £6k.

certainly, if people know they are going to get less than they should, then yeah, p/ex is fine.

I wonder how reliable any depreciation figures are.

I mean if you look at cars like BMW's and Golfs that are supposed to be good, how much do they really lose when you have to spend a load on optional extra's for a start and then your typical owner just px's it. I expect the official depreciation figures compare the list price of the basic car and the average used private/dealer selling price as opposed to px value.

Your typical 1.2 Clio meanwhile doesn't need any options and being of lower value people sell private and don't lose as much.

Say your gonig out on a date and your picking the girl up what would u rather pick her up in??
As much as i love both cars i know what i'd choose.

  Yaris Hybrid
A date? Why I'd go out in a BMW 318 with a tidy set of wheels of course or the BMW 323 my mate had before his CTR.

If a bird chooses blokes based on cars I'd rather walk than take the Clio or Civic!

^ quite a few years ago i knew a fit 17r old bird who really liked me and stuff but she was put off by my first car a 1.0 polo, saw her driving around later on with some guy in a saphire turbo. unlucky as it was the last thing theyd both do together :(

Well no cos unfortunately they tend to be the fittest!

It's only the fat ugly ones that ain't fussed about your motor cos lets face it they can't afford to be picky!

I know with all the cars my mate and I have had it was the BMW 323 and the P1 that impressed them the most. The 182, CTR, V6 and even the S2k did nothing. Cars like them only impress other blokes and we ain't into that.

Can't complain though, if I saw a decent looking bird in a Clio or CTR I would turn my nose up but would be impressed if they had a large butch saloon.

I'd be much more impressed by a fit girl in a CTR or Clio 172 / 182 (which there are a few that I've seen) than a girl with 3 series!
