182FF - Outstanding In It's Field

Hello,

First time poster from Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Just entered the world of Clio Sport ownership.

Picked up this poor wee 182 FullFat that had been left outside unloved for 3 years...

It runs but there's plenty to do.

I'm wanting to bring it back to best so I will be trawling the forums for advice and info.

Poor thing.

Cheers,

Dan

Good find! Looks fairly tidy for a field find.

Any idea why it was abandoned in the first place?
It was advertised on fb marketplace about 15 mins from my house. looked too pricey for its condition but went for a look anyway.

Its a 2006 registered 105k mile car with 8 owners

Guy laid it up in 2019 after an MOT fail with the intention of fixing it at some point, then lockdown etc etc...

We got chatting and he wasn't keen on selling stuff as he didn't like the idea of people at his door noseying about. I was honest with him and said I wasn't after such a big project, but we got chatting and we agreed on a decent price and he even lent me his car trailer.

It had seized brakes, broken spring, rust, mould, cracked rear bumper, dents, scratches and the engine bay is minging.... it needs alot of TLC:)

So I'm ordering everything I can find to get the engine bay to OEM and everything required to get it in a fit state for MOT.

Sadly there's limited history with the car, he did say the belts where done in 2018 but he lost the receipt, the ancillary belt does look new and it runs ok with no whines, but I'll change the belts regardless

I also have noticed the gearbox has a speedo sensor on it which indicates its got a 172 cup box, so who knows what other delights await me. But I guess thats part of the fun.:D

Came up ok after a bit (a complete weekend) of a clean. (y)

Get a project thread up mate!

The project threads are a good place to look, lots of part numbers and ideas.

My advice for what its worth would be to have the rear beam and fuel tank out - both easy items to remove. That gives you access to all the bits that tend to rust the worst on these.

Good luck with it!

Good idea, I'll start a project thread 👍🏻

I will strip it all as ypu suggest.

Is that the original pea shooter exhaust? Seems really small for aftermarket but looks stainless.
Ummm... dunno...

It came with another original exhaust which is on my garden.

The one thats on it sounds like an aftermarket sports exhaust, but is most definitely not stainless...
