19 16v engine

  172
Am i right in thinking that a 19 16v engine would go straight into my RT?

For example if i bought a full car would everything (subframe, shafts, gearbox) fit the same as it would if i used a clio 16v donor? Seems to me that 19 16v's go for a fair bit cheaper for some reason :dapprove: Thanks

Gav

you need clio 16v top engine mounts and gearbox mounts, i have all of them ;)
the wishbones ets are all part of the williams wide track, i say do it!

Also the loom is completly different. I also have one of these lol.

Thanks Dan, i wont be doing the conversion until the summer so i'll keep it in mind. Took me and two mates 2 days to fit a willy lump.

Am i better off looking for a full car or an engine on its own? I mean you see valvers going for 4-500 quid but surely they're fooked or need engine work at that price. But then again you see engines with parts missing like driveshafts/g/box/suspension etc and that means more money.
Another thing, is it a waste of time swapping my 100k RT engine for a 100k valver lump, how much for a rebuild/major service etc (parts only)

Would like to do the whole conversion for under 400 including new cambelt and plugs etc, labour will be free

^^^ Not worth it tbh, no doubt could be done but wouldn't be worth it when you could just drop a 172 in there imo.

As for teh 19 engine you can re-use the 1.4 mounts, just ideally you would want some off a 1.8 16v. Driveshafts and gearbox can be used off the 1.4, if you keep the normal track anyway.

THeres a few things you would need to change on the 19 engine though as the alternator etc is different on the 19 to the clio iirc.

Nice to hear that my 1.4 shafts and box can be used, i presume the ratio will be different but it'll still work yeah? I'll still most likely find one from a clio to save the hassle, thanks for the info :)

yeah, the ratios will be different but the box itself should be fine. This was being discussed elsewhere recently and it seems the 1.4 boxes might actually be stronger than the 16v as they both use the same internals but the 1.4 diff seems to be a bit better. IIRC there will be a slight gap between the gearbox and the sump if you use a JB1 box (out of the 1.4) but it doesn't make any difference.
