Done some searching but can’t see a definitive answer. Only seems to be people running higher comp 197/200 pistons using the different plugs

Is there any advantage to it?

Secondly is anyone using them? Or just sticking to standard.

Cheers

197 plug is a 7 heat grade, compared to 172 which is a 6 heat grade.

So essentially you would be running a slightly colder plug. Cant see you needing it unless cr increase etc. With cr increase or high rpm screamer, the colder plug would be better for increased combustion chamber temps/knock resistance.

You could fit them to a stock 172 but wont see any performance gain. In theory the colder plug could carbon foul easier, but in reality prob wont have an issue. For instance i run 8 grade in all of my meg engines, whereas stock is 7 grade and ive never fouled a plug.
