197 build quality.. opinions and thoughts?

  197 & bag o'shit Vxh
Hey, I'm interested too see how other 197, or even other Renault owners feel about Renault build quality?

Before my 197 I owned a regular 1.2 MK3 clio, which for a relatively cheap hatchback I thought was of good quality. Since owning my 197 which is now just over 3 years old, the closer I look I can't forgive the cheap looking way some of it was put together.

I can appreciate it's a 3 year old car, however it only ever had 1 owner and had no modifications before I had it.

I know Renault are known for great build quality, but wondered if anyone has ever noticed anything in particular with their car?

Cheers

All the Renaultsport cars are Hand built in a separate factory in Dieppe and in Seville. The attention to detail is meticulous. Every car is fully inspected before it leaves the build area and any faults rectified. I was in the Alpine Factory in May and was amazed how much time is put into each car. They only make 18 cars a day there do they have the time to make sure its built properly.

They are better put together than the Mk2. What pieces are you talking about? The steering wheel suffers the same fault as the Mk2's, but everything else feels much better. Only issue i've had interior wise is the speakier grilles rattling. Easily sorted with some squeak tape

Miles better built that my 172.

I've not really had any issues with mine yet to be honest, and it's coming up to 5 years old, I've had it for about 6 months.

hi sthomas, perhaps your just fed up with the way it looks, your black wheels look nice how about a cup spoiler some ebach springs down 20mm and some wheel spacers say 10mm it would change how it sits on the road, bit like this oneView attachment 66586

Nightrider that looks SICK! Is that lowered 20mm with 10mm spacers?

If so, I know what the LY's being treated to for Christmas.

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
stance looks hawt-

theres a long list of things that fall to bits on a 197- however theres an even longer list on a 182 & get back to a phase 1 & you will find an even longer list-
Some of it is build quality related- IE steering wheel- others its just age related-

thats the one, the black speedlines look so much better i think, some say that the spacers on the rear may change the handling but i been watching and people seem to have different opinions on this.

steve would bigger spacers have an effect on track control arms etc

Rubbish. My old Clio broke and broke down constantly. My S3 has less rattles at 77k miles than my Clio did from new.

I came back from the 'Ring in a nearly new S3 and it rattled my than the 197 did!

The 197 is up there with a lot of similarly priced cars, for me it's the gearbox that lets it down.
