dread to think how much it will cost to run a 197 in 2 years time

The 197 is quite a bit thirstier than the 172 is it not? Other than that the running costs would probably be comparable.

well, i have an R27 which is basically a 197 with a cup pack and tasty stuff like recaros and tinted windows etc..

day to day, the car is fantastic. it'll do the daily grind with ease, interior quality is a big step up from before.... dare i say it, but its not too far off german quality these days.

on weekend drives, the car never fails to put a smile on the face. the engine is actually more torquey than reviews would have u believe, but takin it abover 5500rpm is seriously addictive.

yes, the mpg is pretty pants compared to the 172. average, i'll get about 25-28 depending on how the car has been used that week. its not bad really considering what it is, but it is lower than the 172s.

The 197 cup has a bit of a naff interior imo, the plastics aren't as nice as the FF, but thats me just being fussy.

what i will say tho, the steering wheel on the FF 197s are lovely, but the cup steering wheel is lot more ordinary. not much, but a pretty big thing for me given thats what u'll be holding all the time!

oh right.... good choice then.

limited to 500, but i think quite a few have been written off already. :dapprove:

what do you think of the F1 decals?

Thats what i want the R27

Hi mate, I own an R27 and I totally agree with evolution. Don't get the Cup, get a FF even if it's 2nd hand with no options.

They are superb cars and yes the build quality is not far off a Volkswagen.

The best way to desribe the 197/R27 to the 172/182 would be a precise, smooth and predictable driving experience rather than a bumpy, noisey and sometimes scary drive.

Most demo cars are run on standard unleaded and this car needs V-Power or a good super unleaded fuel. Bearing this in mind you can't believe the speed of this car until you have run it in properly and fed it a good diet.

The issues of short gear ratios which means more changes is not really anything more than a characteristic of the car. I generally stick it on cruise control at 70 on the motorway and its fine a about 3,500rpm. If you end up buying a car with the original gearbox, don't let that bother you as there's hardly anything in it.
