197 Funny Noise

Car  Nimbus 197 Full Fat
Hoping you guys can help me out.
I started my car this morning and straight away I heard a funny like swirling screechy noise so I turned the car off when I turned it back on the noise was still there. I am thinking it maybe the cam as it is overdue. I can only hear the noise when I first start the car after the car is warm and is stationary I cannot hear the noise.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what it could possibly be? Or am I right thinking it is the cam.

Sounds like the belts (likely the aux belt) squealing. Get them done ASAP. I personally wouldn't run the car until you can get them done.

If one of the belts (aux or cam) snaps or jumps then it is highly likely you'll knacker the engine beyond repair.

IThank Cub I will get it to the garage and get some quotes. Boy I am looking forward to the cost of that.

As advised by @Cub. - don't even turn your car over again unless it's bringing it in to get it's cambelts done.

Also, all RenaultSports need a specialist to do the job as special tools are requried. Even places like a Renault dealership shouldn't be doing them. Give them a standard Renault and it's fine but present them with a sport and they'll treat it like a standard Renault.

197's especially need a specialist to do the job. They normally work out cheaper as well. There are plenty on the forum.

I can see you're close to Nottingham. @MicKPM is the owner of Diamond Motors in Long Eaton and is highly recommended on here. Take my advice (and several other peoples) and take it to him. Do not trust an every day garage.

I did once and it resulted in me having the top engine rebuilt.

Highly recommended. Mick knows these cars inside and out. Mention you're from ClioSport and he may be able to sort you something out!

I know he's a little bit tied up at the moment so if he doesn't answer the phone then drop him an email through his website and he's normally quite quick to respond.

Yeh I just spoke with him it's a good price. I didn't mention the site though. I have got to speak to the fella first as he is on the sick and we need to find the money from somewhere as at the minute it's either rent gets paid or move. Looks like i have to speak the father or the fellas mum to help me out.

Cambelt going is near enough the only thing that will write your engine off, if that makes sense. That goes and everything goes.
I know it's easy to say 'oh, I'm only going 2 minutes down the road' but honestly it's not worth the hassle of bad luck and the cambelt slipping. Will only cause more hassle.

Hope everything gets sorted for you though Gemma! Let us know how you get on.

Yeh I know what you mean. I have been having this coming for a while. Best do some begging for help see if I can convince the parents to help me while I am in a mess or use the fella’s car. Yeh will let you know what happens.

Thanks for the help really appreciate it.

If you're only hearing it when it's on idle, check it isn't coming from the clutch. I had a simular thing on my 197, only squealing on idle and it wasn't all of the time.

Popped my foot on the clutch a bit and it stopped. This was because the release bearing had gone on the clutch.

Well I just restarted the car when I popped for a Cigarette break and the noise is gone. It's really strange.

Nah it's properly common now the cars are getting older... it will most likely be the bottom accessory pulley or a water pump issue but either way, it needs sorting

Mick

@MicKPM Well I am speaking with the Fella later Mick hopefully have an idea of when I can get the car to you then as you are only down the road from my work. But like you said on the phone earlier cambelt needs doing no matter what as it is well over due.

So I thought I would add a video for you guys to check out and see what you think.

Here is the link

I hate that bloody song!

Hard to tell from the video tbh but there's deffo something abnormal sounding.

Your only as old as you feel Mick lol. What's wrong with the music these days apart from most of it is rubbish. Not like it use to be. I cannot believe I just said that I am still young and youthful

no I am only 22 will not be doing that. If I get time on my lunch am I okay to pop down for you to have a listen to the clio is really worrying me now

Yeah that should be fine - Go go for something to eat around 12.30-13.00 though so if i'm not about, you know where I'll be. I don't stray too far though so won't be long.
