197 gearing noise

it's getting so annoying that I want to put a VERY VERY loud exhaust just to cover the awfull sound coming from somewhere under the car... every time I lift my foot of the throttle - there it is.

I know it won't go away, and there's probably nothing I can do about it !?
But just tell me - are me and phil bennett the only ones experiencing this, cause he complained on renaultsport.uk forums about this !?

it really is anoying.And it's kinda embarassing cause from the outside it sounds like somethings wrong with the car, and every time I go through crowded streets I have to press the clutch so someone want hear it.

does this happen with the 172/182 ?
any tip, advice, shoulder to cry on ?

Probably your clutch mechanism mate, there are quite a few clutches that have gone on the 197s, over on Renaultsport.co.uk

it can't be "gone", the car's only done 3000 miles.
And the clutch is "fine", gearshifts are smooth and everything, it's just the noise....

the release bearings make a wining noise when they go and dont always effect the operation at first

Of course it can be "gone", theres a lot more to wear out in a clutch than the friction material. I had a pressure plate fail in a lot less than that!

f**k me! thank god im not going mad! mate I know the noise, its like a toned down sound like the old metros used to make, like a binding, or light whining noise. Im worried it might even be a noisy diff?!!! does yours get worse if you wobble the steering wheel from left to right? try doing it in neutral aswell,im sure mine does it. Try getting a reno technician to hear it though!!!!

further to my last....in 4 months on 2 occassions my clutch pedal has become very stiff and its slipped a lot under normal driving. leave it overnight and its fixed.... any reno technicians on here?

It sometimes pops up in the back of my mind, did i do the right thing getting rid of the clio then up pops a thread like this one and i think yes, you did.
