??? 197 tyres ???

I'm in need of buying new tyres for my car. Always had toyo t1-r's on my old car but have heard some pretty rubbish reviews on them for the clio sports, and have considered returning the car to o.e spec with the Michelin pe2 as they where designed for this car, but are there any decent alternatives? Especially as most tyre suppliers want £130 each for the pe2.

Er... OE is continental sport contact 3.

Toyo are fine on 197 but wear fast, but are more predictable than the conti

Hankook v12 were my favourite. As predictable as the Toyo but better all round grip.

To add to the above the pe2 was OE on the ph2 mk2 RS versions.

Generic small hatch forum-recommendations are:

Hankook v12 Evo
Uniroyal rainsport 2

Parada spec 2 seem popular on here as a summer only tyre if you want something with a bit more bite (general consensus is great dry grip but lasts 4 to 5k miles) without the drone/price of a semi slick.

What size wheels are you running?

Standard 17's, thought about upsizing to 18's but want to keep the car as standard as pos.

tyre size is 215/45/r17 XL, its an annoying size because it seems only a few tyre manufacturers
Make good performance tyres in this size. And I would like the tyres to last at least 10k but this may be expecting to much of this car.

whats the price difference between contact sport 3's, v12s and rainsports?

there was a thread on here with a link to cheap federal RSR's... i think for the 197 they were something like £70 per corner! and apparently theyre likened to 888's

Hankooks are £99 a corner and Conti sport contact 5 are £125 per corner

Got no experience of RSRs but aren't they semi-slick? So wear rates will be poor compared to the others.

Have used federal 595 but that was on a swift on the ring and they were good.

I'm torn between Hankook and continentals. The contis have performed very well on road and track with excellent wear rates, they are also very predictable in the limit. Hankook I have no experience with.

Hankook are better imo. I had the original contis on, then Toyos which I found better overall though wear rate was poor, and then the hankooks which were excellent!

think im gunna go for some conti's, had a look at some other reviews and people have given really good feedback.
and to be fair anything is gunna be better than whats on it at the mo, evergreen"performance" ha! and autoguard!!

is there a need to stick with extra load tyres though?

Pros will be the immense dry grip, cost. But cons will be not huge wet grip, probably not great on standing water although better than R888's! Plus with how fast they will wear, they will end up costing you more in the long run compared to what a set of Michelins would of cost/lasted for example.

Yeah, I doubt you would see more than 5-6k out of a set of front federal rsrs. Where as the Michelins you will manage 15k easy for road use.

Federals are great for track days if you are doing plenty.
