2.2 Conversion?????

I'm looking to transplant from another renault, there are 2.2 lumps around but i gotta find out how difficult they would be to fit. I also want to keep it 8v.

that was years back that willy, about 6 or more years ago, if im thinking of the same one fred, quad exhausts very fast and loud??? old fast car mag feature?

If done properly it will be so much more drivable than the 16v equivalent and it'l be lighter. This is a project so who knows how it'l end up, but at this point i'm aiming for 8v.

Wouldn't an 8v have more torque and low down power? and less valves to replace if the cam belt goes

it will be torquey but wont it run out of puff?

Big valves, titanium springs and solid buckets, along with some other mods, it'l easily go round to 8grand - I hope!

only 2.2 litre engines renault have done are all deisel unless you count the ones in the 25 gtx but they only made 123bhp and prob wouldnt fit (the renault 25 was massive)

if you want a light engine use r5 gtt engine 1.4 turbo 8v no cambelt to go if your worried about that. can get good power out of them (people on rtoc reaching over 300bhp now) and if you want to do somthing a bit special get a gordini head coversion on the c1j bottom end (gordini head has massive valves and was fitted to the turbo 2 rally car and derived from the renault f1 1.5 turbo engine from the 80's)

Can get 84mm forged pistons for the willy lump to take it up to 2061cc

Ironically, it will become a relatively peaky engine to get an 8v to carry on making power till 8000rpm.

16v's are better all round if your going to rev it.

thats what i meant, surely you will only get a narrow power band? whereas a 16v is/could be spread across the rev range,

my old mini 1380 had a short power band that rev'd to 7.8k, had a mild cam i think 296(shite in traffic) but power was only between 3k-4'5k, it just rev'd high,

oh yeah and the old a series is a similar design to the 5gtt engine,

still unreliable engines though lol

since when has the gtt engine been unreliable? more myths caused by chavs that get a standard engine and turn the boost up till the head gasket goes
granted is a crap engine design but does the job and r5's will be into the 10 second 1/4 miles this year guarenteed ;)
