2 Ohms config

ok, point noted.

so what should i do to get max output/efficiency out of my:

2-channel amp (rockford 301s) &

two Rockford 12" Subs (RFP-4412, single coil)??

NB: they can be in separate boxes or a dual box

cheers guys!!

Hey guys,

how do you wire up two 12" single coilsubs so they are two ohms?

Obviously its +ve to +ve etc but the subs are in separate boxes. What wired are needed? or is it only possible if they are in a double box??

Cheers guys :)

i think the daylight saving ltime changes have messed this message up!

right if the 2ch amp can run in 2ohm with 2channels then just connect them up, if not, ditch one of the subs or buy another amp

Split the output at the amp, wire going to each sub! Will have the same effect!

whatcha mean?

so i bridge my 2-channel amp to get it to 2 ohms and then split the wires again to each of the subs?

what wires do i need then? cos the IXOS kit i got dont have that i think

cheers

yeah it can run in 2 ohms.

would it give the same output as two subs connected together (+ve to +ve etc) powered by a bridged 2-channel amp?

cheers

p.s sorry for the crap Qs

to run at 2 ohms you connect up the 2 subs to the same channel of the amp, +ve of each sub to the same +ve on the amp and -ve of each sub to the same -ve on the amp.

BUT YOU CAN NOT DO THIS OVER A BRIDGED CHANNEL OR YOU WILL BLOW YOUR AMP UP!!!!

if i connect both +ve & both -ve from subs into one channel, would that not just draw power from just one channel? the other channel would be left unconnected??

how would that get max output from amp then?

im confused  and im doing my masters in Electonic Engineering!!

YES, MASTERS IN EE!!!

I think i have to leave the union bar a few hours early form now on.

Yes this is true, you can not run a two channel amp at 2ohms with two 4 ohm subs, that is why you buy a mono channel amp for subs as you can run both subs off the one channel and get it at 2 ohms. If you what to get the most out your amp you need to buy another two 4 ohm subs and have 2 subs on each channel, or buy two 2ohm or dual 4 ohm subs and run one of each channel, or buy a mono channel amp.

What you want to do can not be done with the equipment you have

cheers colin for the detailed reply and lil sketch.

much appreciated.

think im going to return my sub and get the monoblock version instead.

yea get the monoblock, and it makes absolutly no difference to wiring whither its in 2 single boxes or a twin box
