200 - Limited Revs When Brand New?

Ive read somewhere that the 200 has limited revs until it has a certain amount of miles on?

Is this true, just the 200 i test drove (only one ive ever driven) only had 8 miles on and felt very restricted?

they loosen up as more and more miles are put on it

No rev restriction, but they do loosen up.

Only limited when cold, like any other engine really.

The running in period is 625 miles (or 1000 kilometers).

I test drove one with 18 miles on the clock. Felt great and revved well once warm, got the shift beep on the go aswell.

When I got back to the garage the dealer slid the vri leaflet accross the table and said 'Id reccomend this if you plan to drive like you did on the test drive' ahaha.

They drive like a sack of s**t when they're cold. Wait for it to warm up, give it death, enjoy.

The running in period is a waste of time imo.

As said they loosen up a lot with miles. I've put 5k on mine and kicked it's hole regularly and it revs a lot more freely than when it was new.

It's personal preference. None of the cars I've owned from new have been run-in, all ran perfectly. The day I picked the 200 up, warmed it, floored it.

The way i'd run it in is warm it up fully, then change up when it goes babababababab then repeat for the next gear. Fact of the matter is they usually make more power when run in hard plus your going to throw it back at Renault after 2 years anyway so you'll always have warranty.

imo yes. I've worked at two different dealerships and have seen the way the car gets driven on its PDI. I've also been to Dieppe and watched as every single renault sport vehicle is tested on their mini circuit before its released from there. Add to that fact that Boris Jerkov down at Southampton docks will drive it in first gear bouncing off the limiter all the way off the boat.

By the time I took delivery of my Cup, at least 3 people have given it beans so there is Zero point in me taking it steady for the first 600 miles.

I'm not so sure running in is a waste of time, I followed the handbook instructions and now regularly get mixed driving 34mpg without any drop of oil burnt (after 5.5k miles)... Some of the people on here that complain about mpg are the same ones who didn't run it in (maybe a coincidence)?

750 miles without going into high revs, other than a very occasional change up near the limiter once it had a few hundred miles on

I run mine in by the book and i get rubbish MPG, 24.6MPG but perhaps that has something to with the fact that I trash the living daylights out of her...lol Dont buy a hot hatch if you want an economial run about... just clocked 16,000 miles ans she is getting much looser, it seen that they get better with age.

Regardless what any dealer tells me the only thing id worry about with a new car is having the engine upto temperature.

Having never had a new car id seriously consider driving it from a dealer straight to a rolling road.
