200 Paint fell off. f**k SAKE.

Ry unfortunately my positector is away for repair and I'm only left with my pd8 (metal only)

Of the top of my head I'm sure that corner had a local repair in it's past.

On the plus side, if you're correct (which I'm not doubting btw), at least when it next rains the paint may stay attached to my roof!

I'll update this on Friday after the body shop take a look.

  A special one.
If the repair was done by the last owner then I dont think you will have a leg to stand on.

You bought the car used from a trader, right?

Ry I've looked through my paint depth sheets for your 200 and yes it did have a repair. Also remember me showing you the signs of overspray in the NSF wheel arch/liner. Sadly as Scott said Ren won't touch it.

Yes, I bought it from Steve, R-Sport Cars LTD - Steve, I know you like re-doing paint etc on cars that aren't up to scratch, was this pre-you? (Don't worry, I'm not going to ask you for money etc lol)

Morning Mate- no paint on the blue one- I can just about remember it was Jan 2012 when I got it. I sold it on here to a PX trophy, then sold it again to you 6 weeks later when he PXed it into a Megane R26.

It came from Renault London West IIRC.

You have got a choice where to spray it-

Bodyshop will be a few hundred to spray & blend-

A mobile man will be £60-80- however it wont be as good & I know your OCD on your paint- the problem with mobile people is in the ambient outside air theres so many particles & they just get on the paint.

You could get the mobile man to do it & then flat it off & polish it up-

Go on you know you wanna have a guy in a tent , you could then meet him at a field, have a beer and a BBQ while he fixes your car in the p*ssing rain lol.

After a long chat with a customer support manager, Christine Perkins (who was really nice tbf) Im booked in on Friday to my 'local' Renault approved body shop (Colchester, Faseko - Anyone know them?)

I explained that my first car was 12 years years old and the paint didn't fall off, so repaired FOC. She said that's a fair point and would also be gutted if it happened to her RS Twingo.

She kept asking if my Renault Corrosion checks were up to date, I have no idea what that is, I assume a check when they service the car? I just explained I had 3 x Renault stamps an 2 indi, on a 4 year old car she said that seems fine.

Fingers crossed!

Explain to her that plastic bumpers do not corrode.

I imagine in that sitution they would state that the corrosion checks are a 'once over' check on which any marks are mentioned. I've had cars which have had sheets in the history folder mentioning scratches and scrapes which were no longer visible in my ownership. I would have thought if I had then down the line had a problem with an area, they would have said that there's records of previous repairs. Without those checks, they could perhaps say you have no proof that shoddy work was carried out in the past - which from other posts it does actually appear that it has had paint.

If Renault is a no go, I'll get the whole bumper re-sprayed. Any tips for short term damage limitation? I still want a clean car but don't want to pull more paint off when washing it. I won't be able to get it done until the end of the month nearer payday.

Tempted to shove a big arse sticker on that area for a bit. Will hide it until I get it sprayed. Thoughts on this?

Yep stuff a sticker on it, will stop crap getting under it and help to stop it lifting further. (Bare in mind, renault might wanna see the damage tho.......let them see it first! as pulling the sticker off will remove more paint probably)

If you do manage to knock more of it off when cleaning it, is it really going to be an issue if you are going to get the full bumper resprayed? Clean that area lightly - not with a sandblasting nozzle like previously.

A big shitty scene sticker will attract more attention to the area than if you just leave it as is for a few weeks IMO.

I'm booked in tomorrow with them, so will put one on at the weekend I think.

It's not to cover it up for looks as such, more to protect the car. I have bare metal exposed at the moment, and dont want to cause any issues later on in the cars life, so by sticking something on it, I'll be covering the metal.

Need to find/buy a bloody sticker now.

Can't you just slap a bit of paint from a touch up stick on for now?

Won't look amazing but will be better than a random sticker.

He can't touch it up as Renault will just refuse to sort it once they see it.

I'd be surprised if they don't refuse anyway, not much going for a claim against them:

Purchased used
Not got a FRSH
Not had 'Anti corrosion check'
Has had a smart repair in that area
Paint blasted off with Jet Wash
Out of paint warranty

This is what I'm assumign will happen, however it's worth a shot. When I started the 'Renault' business, I wasn't aware of the possible repair it had seen in that area. The woman on the telephone seemed happy it had 3 renault stamps, so you never know.

Leaving in 10 mins or so to Colchester, I imagine it'll be a wasted trip but you never know. Will pop an update here when I get home.

So, update time.

As we all suspected, they assessed it and confirmed it had been 'smart repaired' before. He is going to submit a claim to Renault, because 'you never know', but said in his experience, they won't entertain the thought.

He quoted £180+Vat for a 'spot repair' or £350+Vat for the full bumper. Going to get some more quotes and read up on places and decide what I'm going to do. Gutted is an understatement!
