2000 2/mk1 1.9D to 1.5TD?

  Clio 2 Phase 1 1.9D
It's painfully slow, the car has done allot of miles now (180k) so I figure the engine must be close to letting go completely despite being really well maintained.

So i'm going to get the engine out and give it a total over haul and a new head gasket, water/oil pump...etc.

Before I do that I was wondering if there was a turbo diesel engine I could put in there like the 100bhp 1.5 direct injection engine and if it was just a straight swap?

I know it would be easier to sell the car and get a mk2 with the 1.5 dCi engine from factory... but I love the little bugger.

If there is no direct swap, what can I do to make it even a little bit quicker while rebuilding?

1.5 dci 100 remapped to 130bhp 200lb/ft wud be awesome in a mark 1 but sadly its not worth the hastle, and i mean it would be a mega hastle!, if you were to buy a doner car it would be easier but still a pain

ahhh so it won't fit on the same engine mounts/wireing loom (with the new ecu)?

What can i do with with the 1.9D if that's the case?

just re read your thread title, its a year 2000 car? so MK2 not MK1? in that case then yes its slightly easier but still a pain, the 1.5 dci will fit on the same engine mounts.

your best bet (obviously its much easier and cheaper to buy a dci however..) is to buy a crashed dci, swap the engine, box, ecu and wiring over, along with the dashboard and UCH. basically you would be re shelling the dci with your shell.

hmmm... it's a clio 2 but a mk1, the mk2 is 2001 onwards?

What makes it more of a pain than any other engine swap?

doing the swap you would be doing ie basically just reshelling isnt really any harder than any other engine swap, however when your picking up a mk2 dynamique dci which is a better speced car for under £2k, is it really worth while?

You're right, phase 1 is a better way of saying it I think :)

I'm just attached to this clio and I think they look a little nicer than the phase 2

Do you know if the wiring loom is the same, plug and play?

no wiring is completely different so you would need to use the full dci wiring loom, along with dci UCH and ph2 dashboard (need the ph2 door cards to fit that too)

in all honesty unless the car has some significant sentimental value, its not justifyable at all!
