2005 Megane key card fault

  Williams 2, 182 cup
Right people, I have a 2005 Megane with the key card system. I bought the car nearly two years ago which was supplied with one key, today that key decided it no longer wants to lock or unlock the doors but will start the car. I have replaced the battery with no joy and a local auto electrician confirmed pressing the buttons on the key sends out a signal.

So what has gone wrong? Does the key need recoding or is there likely to be a fault on the car itself?

My megane was similar recently, the key card would lock/unlock the car but not start it.
I sent my card to this company http://www.keyrepair.co.uk/index.html and they repaired the board inside the card and had it back in 3 days, cost around £35 posted.

I have had the key tested by two independent places who have both confirmed the key is working 100%. One of the places reprogrammed the key and still not joy. Is there an aerial or some part that could be faulty on the car?

Yes there is an aerial built in to the uch which is above the glove box but I'd be careful here as this stuff is easily misdiagnosed and costly in parts.

I'm assuming the card still starts the vehicle okay but fails to lock/unlock? How was the signal "tested" by the specialists and did anyone confirm the uch was recieving a request frame from the card?

I'm with LN at the minute and until info suggests otherwise would say taken it to Renault and get yourself a brand new pair of key cards (£230 from memory).

Yes the car still starts. Both used a device that showed a signal was being sent by the key when the button is pressed and one even checked the speed/strength of the signal. Nothing has been checked on the car itself.

What is a uch? Could replacing said part with a second hand part not be a better option then splashing out on keys?

If you knew what a uch was and what it did you wouldn't ask that question. Its the body control module and is responsible for everything you take for granted, its coded to your car and would cost a small fortune to replace.

Most likely there's a fault with either the card or the car so it needs checking properly including the cars systems by someone that has dealer level equipment and more importantly knows how these cars are wired/function.

Yeah I'd agree but it really needs CLIP connecting to say for sure.
