Until Renault bring out a more powerful version of the Megane RS then it'll always be compared to the FRS...FACT

may i correct you, it will always be WRONGLY compared to the FRS.
2500 a year for two years on the FRS. its a limited run model.

R29 (or whatever) will probably be 248bhp (250ps) and bang on the money, the Focus RS will be over 300bhp (hinted at producing more than 300 lets see what rroad days bring) and 400NM+ torque !
in reality its about as different as 110bhp 1.6 and a clio 172
the meg is not a limited run, and is at the begining of a new lifecycle.
Why do some people mistake debate for arguing? Arguing is having a war with your missus because she said it was "fine" to do something, and actually meant "do that and I'll be cnut to you for 6 months solid".

Was the CTR not a rival to the 225, LCR, FRS? The CTR for example was down on power but it didnt make it any slower...
Yes the FRS will only be built in limited numbers but regardless the Megane will steal sales of Ford or visa versa...
I still stand by the following...
Both are 3 door family sized hatchbacks...FACT
Both are FF top of the range models...FACT
Both are 248bhp+ performance cars...FACT
Both will be sold to the same market...FACT
I'm not saying I prefer the FRS to the Megane, all I'm saying is that the two cars are comparable...

no, the ford is faster, no doubt. thats not a problem. one car being faster, it doesnt make it better. Also why not ditch the focus ST, making the FRS the only model ?
the new 2009 meg wont have a special edition for a while, if it does then yea compare.

Just because it might be faster in a straight line doesn’t mean it'll be faster on the track or the A roads...
Ford didn’t have to make the FRS a special edition. They just do it to ensure they can future proof the model while guarantee x number of sales...
If I was in the market for a midsize performance hatch I’d definitely look at both

The focus rs is a top end, more extreme hot hatch. Reflected in the price. The Meg RS is not, it's in the Focus ST/Golf GTi etc class. The fact that one's a lot pricier should give it away

i know m8 but there are obviously some people who genuinley think there competing, which is fine its a public opinion forum.
im not taking sides, iam gonna try test blag a drive in a FRS too, and al_G is right it might not actually be faster on track than the meg just because of the straight line.
in the end the ford WILL feature a better engine and be ultimatley better built too, it will have street kudos to the sort of people i dont really want shouting and sticking thumbs up as i drive by or at petrol stations and also a fair ammount of haters.. of which im not.
still, my point is.. i dont think the megane 2009 sport is in the same league as the focus RS its not a loud popping exhausted rally look version, its a try to walk the marketing line and keep emissions, mpg perfectly middle range model. and if it wanted to be it would save the 150kg weight, get rws, perhaps some buckets and cage and almost certainley with the 888`s be as fast if not faster for cheaper and get better mpg and emission.
ultimatley its down to choice, and most joes would choose the FRS.
