205/40/16 Vs 195/45/16

Car  Breaking A 172 Replica
Hello guys,

Time to change my 16" tyres and I would like to know the difference between the above tyre sizes.

Any advice?

205s seems a little dearer but are they better?

Thanks

Sam

vs 215/40/16......

The first number is the width of the tyre. The second is the size of the sidewall, as a percentage of the first figure. The last is easy.

id go for the 205s, bit more rim protection, lower profile aswell, = less tyrewall flex

I got 215/40 16 toyo proxies on my cup, awesome grip, even in the wet, the steering feel is still the same, the rims are a bit more protected, but you can still curb them. the tyres now look like they belong on the rims, not like before with 195's, and they are cheep too!

50.70 each! I was looking at the 205/45/16 of these and they are just under 60 but this is cheap.

I’m looking at tyres for the 172. My tyres currently on are 195/45/16. Can I fit 205/45/16 instead? Not to clued up on tyres with regards to what fits what… The wheels are Mk2 172 standard rims

I priced up some michelin exalto PE2 at costo, 195/45/16 £69.31 per corner balanced and fitted. Am i right in saying 215 makes the tyre wider and 40 'the profile' thinner?

yes but because you are going up 10mm you have to reduce the profile by 5 to get the same rolling circumference
that seems too cheep for pe2's

Errr. Not being funny, but in a 172 "replica" does it really matter?

If the answer is yes then I would go with the 205/40s. More rubber in contact with the ground.

i got 205/45/16 i did have 215/40/16 before an found the steering to be slightly heavier but nowt too much unless i was doing some long distance driving as then it got tiring.
Personally i would say stick to 205/45/16 or 40's on the profile.
