2ltr 16v Conversion

Ive been reading loftys thred with great interest, Ive just blown an end bearing on my engine sourced a 19 16v just to put me back on the road. I want to rebuild my 1.8 clio lump now its out but was wondering about rebuiding a 2ltr lump, Why not a laguna on if Im rebuiding what other parts will I need to Source or should I just stick with lightening & balanceing the 1.8. Im used to driving fast cars RST etc but fell inlove with the 16 valve engine so dont wont to loose the free reving power it has. Any usfull info?? what will eaither cost me I want cheep reliable usable power a lot to ask I know but any help would be great.

if you find a good supply of 2ltr bottom ends then ill take a couple too!!!!, they are not exactly stacked up with people tripping over them,

go for the ridiculously high revving route, its fun, drivable and more unigue, plus it will be even more quick reving and lively, more like a bike engine! i just think it will be a real novelty being able to take the needle past the red line and beyond into the realms of 8.5k+

i cant wait to get it all done, but one thing that i had hoped it would be was comparitivly cheap, and sadly this isnt the case,

it really depends what you want to get from it, if you want effortless grunt out of the bends and nice A road driving go for the 2ltr, if you want silly blasts of power when ragged and a brilliant track day car stick with the 1800, or i suppose you could increase the bore of the 1800 so you dont lose the short stroke and then make that rev to 9k, its would be livley and very expensive, im sure the 2.1 throttle boddied one that used to frequent this board was somthing along thos lines,

Bens the expert i just find it all really interesting and try and pick things up along the way!

if you were to do ALL the work yourself, then you could replace every "worn" part for about 500 quid.
for a grand, you could give it a little slapntickle. So, its all basically about money at the end of the day.

i have invested in alot of equipment to do the work on heads, cost a fair amount, but in the long run...itll pay itself back.

i would stick with th 1.8...as its a lovely engine, and i am the typre of guy who loves to hear a banshee wail!

lightning is a good idea...in fact its great.
But a little head work and 32mm inlet valves will probably surprise you, if coupled with a set of wilder profile cams.

in fact lofty, why dont we just lighten & balence, replace worn parts, 32mm inlets, cams and ill do a little porting for say 150 - 200 quid, and your have a nice motor..yeah? then you can add to it later, like find another head and go balls out on that over a long period of time, then slap it on when your done!??

sounds god ben, would i need a spare bottom end to do this, an what is the likley cost? also i thought the existing vales were very big? any guessing on power with it all done?

very big...nah, average, the 2ltr F7R has 32mm inlets....the F4R has 35mm and there is more space!

but 32mm inlets would be so beneficial!
main point for power is to concentrate on the head...thats where the power is made!....or lost.

As for the bottom end, up to you really, if you want your car lying around for ages no, if not....yes.
you could go get it done over a week, then drive the car blah blah, whilst we work on the head.

i would say um, 1 grand....for the basic wor and maybe a conservative 145-150...not alot, but were not doin alot....the maic mark though is 100bhp/ltr....which does cost alot.

just wondering if the standard inlet and injection system will be alimiting factor.

on my XR2, a set of twin 40s found 15BHP!!!!! best 300 quid of my life!

all up to you, YOU have to decide on what you want exactly then we work towards it......a 8.5K rev limit is fun though!

Just dont the viper on my 172 as you know....good results, had the chip worked on today...excellent...email me for details.
