2TB MBR Limit & GPT

  Fiesta ST
Quick question regarding Windows XP 32bit accessing a Server running GPT NTFS file server.

I've just setup a Dell server that has 4 x 1TB HDD's. I'm running this as Array as RAID5 with 2 virtual disks.

Virtual Disk 0 as 100GB for OS
Virtual Disk 1 as 2.9TB for Data

Virtual Disk 0 is formatted as MBR for booting OS (Windows 2008R2)
Virtual Disk 1 is formatted as GPT due to the size limit (2TB) of MBR.

Will a Windows XP 32bit machine beable to access the server share on GPT without any issues?

Not sure m8. I was always lead to believe that going beyond the 2TB limit within 32-bit XP was the equivalent of divide by zero!

PM dk - if anyone would know on here, I'm sure he would. :)

I'm hoping Windows XP 32bit doesn't really see the size in a sense and treats it as a SMB share rather than a partition.

It 'might' do. It might not be able to resolve the size of the share (whether or not that causes issues, I don't know) - but it should be ok to view it and access it.

Hopefully. ;)

It's not XP 32bit that's installed on the server is it? If not, should have no issue reading it as just a share surely?

I thought the issue 32bit OS's had is that they can't see it as a boot partition if it's larger than 2TB?

It is Windows 2008R2 64bit, The server hasn't got a issue as it created the GPT partition it's just the site it's going to has a few XP 32bit machines. I'll setup a test lab anyway before I take it to site.

XP32 can't see GPT Partitions is the problem - I'm just hoping that over a network share isn't going to be a problem seeing GPT.
