3 Point Harness?

  Inferno 182 w/ Recaros ;)
When I get my clio back, I was considering putting in some 3 point harnesses on the front seats, I was under the impression that I simply needed to remove the current seatbelts, disconnect the buzzer, then put in the new harness.

Want to do it as I think it would give a better driving experience, and be safer.

Found this one for £45 and it has a double release catch, which would enable passengers access to the rear seats if need be.

How easy is it to remove the seatbelts? And then thread the new ones into my recaros?

Also I was going to tell the insurance company, but this shouldn't increase my premium should it? As this will make the car safer.

Appreciate comments

It would come to £116 altogether for 2 harnesses including VAT and postage. Is that a good deal? Am using Demon Tweeks, do CS members get any discount?

Thats what I thought that this one did. I mean its 3 point just the same as a normal seatbelt.

Actually now I've just thought, there wouldn't be any fixing point to the right of you as the belt just pulls across. Might get a CG Lock

Yeah they look ideal mate. You would need to fit a resistor to stop the airbag light coming on but do a search and you would find more info about that.

You just unbolt the seatbelts and screw in the new ones, easy job to be honest. It may increase your premium but only definite way to know is to phone and ask.

That price seems about average and yes CS members do get a DT discount :)

I don't have sideairbags so the light wouldn't be a problem. Just need to sort out the buzzer for the normal seatbelt.

Don't know about your country, but in mine its illegal.

It doesn't matter that its still a seatbelt and the racing authorities think its a safer sort of seatbelt. The authorities here don't like it because it has to be adjusted correctly for each user, rather than automatically adjusting itself correctly like a belt with a reel, and its non-standard safety equipment so its not tested and approved and certified and it may not have features like automatic tightening in a crash. Replace the standard belts here with a fixed/racing harness and you are driving a vehicle without "approved" seatbelts and not wearing them.

The other people who might not like it are your insurance company. In a crash you could find yourself not covered either for injury to yourself or a passenger.

It may be different in your country.

What I'm talking about is a harness that uses normal seat belt 'buckles' to 'clip' into the car.

So, with a harness like the one pictured, the single strap that comes down from the shoulder straps would simply 'click' into the existing rear passenger seat belt 'buckle' and (for a UK car) the right hand lap strap would 'click' into the existing driver's 'buckle'. The left hand lapstrap would attach to the rail currently used by the standard seat belt.

Imagine an extenstion of how the 3rd rear belt in the Clio works.....

Sorry should maybe have rephrased it. When you take out the pretensioner or it senses that a seatbelt isnt plugged in then the airbag wont set off and the orange airbag light on the dash will come on. Resistors will sort the problem but Im not sure what ones.

Thanks for that info, obviously I would be asking the insurance company before I did anything to the car, if I decide to.

That sounds interesting but I don't know of anywhere that does anything like that, do you?
