3 years Warranty Question

Hi,

I have a nearly 3 year old (in April) Exclusive 172.

I took it to Renault this morning because the exhaust was making some ugly noises at 2k revs.

Theyve called me back to say that the central exhaust system needs to be replaced. They also say that the work/replacement is not covered under warranty since the 3 year warranty coverage is on a "sliding scale". According to this "scale" the repair is now not covered under the warranty and its going to cost 416 quid.

Is this right? I thought it was 3 year warranty on all parts for the duration of the coverage?!? I dont have the warranty details to hand to check, can any one confirm?

Is an extended warranty worth the paper it is written on?

I have a copy of the warranty I can email you if you like? Its about 3mb in total.

The first year is manufacturer, the 2nd and 3rd are dealer covered and usually require you to contribute.

I had the same thing with the 4K rattle (2nd time around). They wouldnt pay cause exhaust is excluded outside the first year, and classed as wear and tear. Id feck it mate and get an aftermarket one. Cheaper and wont go wrong again!

Can anyone recommend a North London Exhaust dealer that can fix this cheaper than Renault? Which Exhaust is recommended?

I know little about car mechanics btw so wont be able to do this myself.

exhausts are only covered in the 1st year.

Says 2 years Renault warrenty (unlimited mileage) and 1 year dealer warrenty.

ya it is comon for the inter box to rattle, i had this on mine, and my warreny runs out in june,

would have cost my £185 pounds for the box, trade i think, ended up getting sales to pay for it lol, but even still, they aint cheep.



extended warrety aint that bad, i had a word with my boss at work and he gave me 1 years extended warrenty on my clio (cos im staff) dont no how much it is to get tho, would advise it, or tho its only going to cover major parts, thats are now waring parts eg pads and tyres aint covard, but say cambelt snapping pumps etc will be covard possible you might have to pay like say 20% but its better than paying the lot!.
