3D enabled games. What's hot?

So. Crysis 2 is 3D (of sorts). Killzone 3 and Black Ops also. Are any of these actually worth playing in 3D on console? Any other games? The only reason I could possibly buy a console shooter is if I can benefit from the 3D aspect with my new TV. I'm not really sure what would be required to do it on my PC. A new monitor for starters, I imagine.

Experiences and opinions of 3D gaming, please.

Haha.

Only played the 3DS...tech was impressive, except gave me a headache.

3D p**n...now there's a thing.

3D Gaming, when it works, is fcuking awesome. For shooters mainly...

Crysis 2 on PC with 3D Vision was absolute crap. No depth what so ever. On the whole though it adds an extra dimension to games which makes them twice as fun to play. If you're looking to do it on PC, you'll need a decent 3D Monitor - requirement being 120hz (60hz for each eye)

Stay away from the cheaper Samsung 22" model. I have it, and although it's not bad - being a first gen the ghosting gets irritating. The ASUS jobby is by far the best imo. Then of course you need the Nvidia 3D Vision controller which comes with a set of glasses. IMO it's worth every penny.

Couple of suggestions, play Batman AA and Black Ops - both work really well

For the record I used to take the piss out of my mate because he raved about it - but it is ace tbh, even more so as it's becoming more affordable. Fcuk the haters? ;)

Be prepared to take a hit in frame rate, it munches it fairly hard

Don't fancy the moneyshot in 3D personally.

Blops is supposed to be good, a mate was raving about it the other day.

Thanks for the info. TBH I've put my new PC plans on hold, and buying a new monitor before I build the new machine is out of the question. With that in mind, I'm entirely convinced that this is only something I want to try with either of my consoles for now.

I've just read that GT5 is very impressive in 3D. Perhaps I will buy that game after all. Plug n play TBH as I have everything I need to roll 3D on console. No brainer IF the games in question are any good. Crysis 2 and BO will be bought at some point regardless, but I really do want to play them on PC.

f**k the haters indeed. I myself was totally nonplussed about it, but having seen how good it can be, I'm very eager to explore more 3D content. It is the wave of the future.

He's already got a cheap 3D TV and posted a comment or two about it on CS.

As for 3D games, I've only played COD Blops and Motorstorm on my TV, the zombie levels are great in 3D, but gaming is too hard tbh. Looks good though.

Movies are better than gaming imo.

Makes perfect sense, I got the sammy panel on the cheap as I was interested to try it out at least, very impressed. Some PS3 boff could possibly be along shortly to correct me, but I'm fairly certain you can't run 5.1 audio with 3D enabled on the PS3, which I was a bit unimpressed with

So it seems it's definitely worth trying, but shouldn't overly influence the buying decision of an individual game?

I suppose it also depends on the quality of the 3D display. Did I mention mine is alpha?

mate, tbh with you - I'm not in the industry anymore and I'm fairly new to the whole 3D thing - I like the Nvidia option because it's basically a case of ..here is a list of supported monitors - take your pick - bish bosh bang.

When it comes to TV's, it looks like a bit of a minefield. Especially with the likes of DSG flogging them on the cheap stating 600hz support, when in fact all they're doing is adding up all the supported modes together. Pricks

Possibly because my current machine still plays everything I can throw at it. I want the latest s**t but I really do not need it. These pesky consoles have kinda spoiled the tech side of PC gaming IMO. I will do it but not yet. Rest easy though you bad boy. When I do it, I'll do it properly.

It's worth a shot, and is very impressive. I tried 3D online a few times, but prefer 2D for the fast reactions.

I didn't realise GT was in 3D  I may have to get it for a blast. Your TV is s**t.

That's all the feedback I need.....

Just downloaded an app on the TV called Explore 3D, and there's a trailer of Crysis 2 available to watch. It looked good. Very good. Still can't bring myself to buy a console shooter though TBH.

Gonna try and pickup GT5 later.

Didn't buy GT5. Can't bring myself to do it. Rather play some old (proper) racing games on PC with the G25. Got some pals coming round next weekend. I'll make sure they bring some of these 3D enabled games over to try out for myself. No doubt I'll update this thread for the benefit of those who may care :)

GT5 is sh*t anyway.

I'd have better input but I'm a pauper, the only 3D I've seen is at the cinema through some 80p glasses and for that reason, I'm out.

Is that the case then? No I don't. Console games look bad enough as it is. I wasn't aware they were half-res in 3D? Or do you mean interlaced? Not exactly the same thing if you do.

Have a read up on 3d, when running 3d on this generation of tvs, the way it's done means you have half the resolution as it displays 2 pictures for the glasses, so you are watching a half resolution picture when running in 3d mode, thought you would have known that?

I have read up on it mate. It seems to me that all is not equal. Some games cheat and some don't. It does not seem a clear case of half resolution, as you suggest.

A friend brought his PS3 version of Crysis 2 over last night. OMG it is amazing in 3D. Really really good. Also just had a blast on Wipeout HD in 3D mode, and that is MENTAL. Gaming in three dimensions is the future. Much more worthy than movies. You really do feel like you're part of the world. Inside a world made of computer graphics. Quite surreal. The way the gun hangs and swings around in Crysis 2 is fantastic.

hmm, if you think Crysis 2 is amazing in 3D you'll scream like a Japanese school girl at Black Ops and other titles which actulaly have depth lol

  Evo 5 RS
I'm talking about the 3D. Crysis 2's 3D is utter s**te. I turned it off as it felt like I was just playing the game through sun glasses

  Evo 5 RS
maybe it's slightly better on PS3 then, I don't know.

Out of all the game I've played shooter wise that's been the worst though tbh, just no depth at all

Crikey. You weren't wrong about Black Ops mate. Properly stunning.

Also been playing some KZ3 but that seems to suffer from some edge artefacts. It doesn't look as clean and crisp as Crysis 2 or Blops.

Blops is without doubt the most impressive 3D experience I've had so far. It's like discovering a whole new form of entertainment.

I wonder if true 3D FPS games would arguably make you more accurate? If the brain compensates for depth of field and in doing so, leads a target 'subconsciously' more accurately than in 2D - could 3D players have a slight edge? I guess the same could be said for racing games too. Attempting that last minute braking move would feel more realistic and possibly more accurate if viewed in 3D?

Would be interesting to try it out. :)

I personally feel it adds something of definite worth to shooters. I don't know about increased accuracy, but the increased sense of immersion is thrilling. Black Ops looks especially good. There are some scenes that are almost spine tingling, and overall it just plays brilliantly with the added third dimension. Iron sights and scopes are shockingly good all the time, as is the general sense of depth to everything. It just feels more real. More dangerous. It's the future of games. Certainly shooters. Anyone who says it isn't, is either blind, or has sampled some rather poor 3D movies - of which there are lots TBF.

The headaches subject is a personal thing. Personally it doesn't affect me. There are two important factors that people all too easily overlook when discussing the worth of 3D - the quality of the display, and the quality of the material. Done badly, it's bad. Done good, it's good. Billybob saw thirty seconds Piranha 3D in Dixons and it looked rubbish, so 3D is rubbish.

EDIT: FYI I did also sample some GT5 3D. It's rubbish. No sense of depth at all, and it still feels like you're constantly understeering a sewing machine into a gravel trap, albeit with a speedo dial that looks like it's floating. Yawn. f**king s**t game is f**king s**t.
