Yes they're that simple, you can go contract or go PAYG and literally top it up in the shops!

I think 3 do a 1-month rolling USB ocntract too.

You get better value going for a direct debit set-up than a pay-as-you-go one in any case, even if it's just a 1-month rolling term

Yes you can top up online/on the phone.

When you run out of credit you can still access the voda website to top up.

I have a Vodafone 3g 3 gig allowance for £15 a month , it's actually not bad at all, but go on their website and check postcode coverage if using at your home, coverage can differ across the country, would'nt want you buying it and then finding out your in a crap coverage area.

I use Orange as it was easy to just add the dongle on my phone contract, but 3 is usually the best

I'd pay a bit more and get a MiFi. At least then you can position it separately to the laptop to get the best signal as well as having more than one device on it easily.
