3rd Gear Crunch - 172 Clio

Hi Guys

I have a 172 Clio (2001) and when I put it into 3rd gear when cold it seems to slightly crunch, its not really a crunch but it kinda grabs hold of the gear, doesnt feel normal.

Any ideas?

Well... feels alright when pulling away, however when booting it at hight rev's 5-6k it does sometimes feel like it rev's too long, like maybe the clutch is slipping.

mmm. put it in 5th at 35mph go up a hill n boot it.. see if it slips. but if its only doin it when its cold cant see it bein the clutch

I shall give that a go then see if it slips. Main dealer has recommended i take it in to them for someone to have a drive of the car.

Wonder what a clutch is gonna cost me?

New clutch at dealer is - £782, my local garage want £390.

it'll be the synchro mate, very common and very expensive

doubt it has anything to do with the clutch

So what your saying is ... get rid of it...

How much is the Synchro to have done? Will it gradually get worse or one day will the car go BOOM... think im gonna try the gearbox oil first.

try putting auto gearbox oil in first thats what we use (gearbox technician) if not i think we charge £200+parts for a gearbox reconwww.topgear.com.uk

Mine has been doing this for a while now ... can catch 4th out now too

Just can't rush these boxes as much as you'd like.
