4 pots on 1*2's

  172 ph1 2.4 transit
Is anyone running 4 pot calipers on there CS's ?? What do you think of them etc ??

After talkin with the lads from Compbrake and also fitting my 8X15 compomtive wheels ive started to think a little out of the usual box !!

Money and a few other things pending the new plan could involve gettin the 4 pot conversion on the front the run the front discs and calipers on the rear with hand brake spot calipers to keep it all legal !!!

there are also hi spec and ap kits that will fit under 15's. there are a few people on here using them.

i wouldn't bother changing the rears though, they do very little as it is, and you would have the headache of setting the effort level correctly.

im running AP Racing 4 pots on the front of my 182 behind 15" speedline 2118's i think there excellent, immense stoppin power, rears are std discs with ds2500 pads

u cant easily fit the fornt discs on the rear its a different set up all thogether disc and bearing are one unit at the rear

I'm running the compbrake 4 pot kit on my 172, and am very impressed with them no fade, and great stopping power.

Something to look at and maybe try over come then mate ;)

id like to see it, compbrake were going to do something but i dont think they ever did, just a lot of effort considering the rear brakes do very little, could only see the point of spending money on better rear brakes if the car was running big power, super charged etc and had incar adjustibility

Unless you are doing serious track days they are not worth it.

Even if you're doing track days, on slicks, can drive and have a sequential box is questionable if its worth it. Clio Cup racers could still lock the wheels up from a decent speed on hot slicks!

Nowt wrong with standards in good order with the right bits IMHO.

Cheers

^i've been saying it for years, they don't listen!

What can you do? We might as well knock a 4 pot kit together and make some money then ;-)

Chaps - its a 1000 Kilo'ish car with 280mm discs and a pretty big pad area. Spend the money elsewhere!

Cheers

fred you have always said that and theres plently of people that have said "just because the cup race cars run that set up doesnt mean it was the best"

they were built on a budget, they do a 20 lap race, not a trackday where you could stay out untill you run out of fuel, they have more grip from slicks dont have to brake as hard, carry more speed though the corners etc there are people out there who think the clio 172/182/race car was underbraked,

i was never happy with my standard calipers with ds2500 pads, there had to be something wrong somewhere with my car as there wasnt enough stopping power and it was hard to lock the wheels up but im more than happy with the AP's

Stock brakes are one area that Renault got right so give them some credit by leaving them alone lol

I'd uprate the pads and stretch to Brembo discs at the most with a total stock set up to the rear

4 pots don't have to increase power to be worth the money...braking feel/modulation/heat dissipation are all suppose to be improved?

Do the hi-spec/comp brake kits fit behind standard 182 wheels and Turini's?

They should do as they have been designed to fit under 15'' wheels mate as above they can fit behind Turini's ;)

LOL at the people saying spending 1k on brakes is a waste of money... then they go and spend 5k on engine mods to get very little extra BHP.

Depends if you judge braking just on power, better and bigger calipers give far improved feel.

Also, lets face it, some people like the visual improvement which is fair enough.

Renault branded... are they on any road cars? Available to order?

They where fitted to a 182 Cup car that was at the Ring last July. The writing is Renaultsport.

I have seen them on other 182 Cup cars, but they are the only pics i have managed to get.

nah there was a 4 pot kit available from mark fish altho i dont think he has sold one recently, its on a silver 172 F4STA number plate i think and the racing blue trackday clio had brembo's that mark built for a customer

Ah yeah, Brian's car!

Need to ring Mark and pay for my cage, keep f**king forgetting

182 Cup/Endurance cars used 4 pots in Europe!!!

Even the new race cars have uprated brakes option on them so even the bigger brakes on the 197 are still demed as inadequate for endurance racing

IMO 4 pots of a good design have worthwhile advantrages over any setup of stock calipers

Doesn't that sort of prove the point? Ie if standard set-up is capable of locking up slicks, more than adequate for track use? After seeing some mentalist outbrake a Gallardo Superleggerra on standard (with uprated pads/discs), think I'd rather spend the money on ho's and liquor.

Have a shot in a certain 300bhp supercharged monster and see if you think spending 1k on brakes is really worth it ;)
