4 Pots

  MK1 Mexico, Clio 172
I've got Brembo HC's and the Fedorra (?) pads on the front and rear, is it worth considering 4pots for track work with the standard engine or is this sufficient.

What are the prefered 4 pots?

HC's and decent pads are more than up to the job of pounding round a track all day.

I run HC's and DS2500 pads and they have done a few track days now and have coped very well. Plan to change the fluid soon and add braided lines.

It's Ferodo ;)

I've got Mintex disks (just cos they're pretty) and Ferodo DS2500 pads, I'll be adding braided hoses and ATE super blue fluid when it comes to service time. This is said to make a huge difference and is probably more than adequate for most people.

BUT, most of those who have taken the plunge and gone for 4 pots have been very very happy and never looked back.... TBH, I'd say they'r eonly worth while if you've got a lot of power or are chasing lap times. The thing to remember is that 4 pots won't ultimately make you stop quicker, braking is mostly limited by tyres.

Having said that, I will be getting them eventually. Other mods are taking priority at the moment though.

There's a lot of good brake manufacturers out there, Brembo, Willwood, AP Racing etc etc etc. Are you running standard wheels? If you're running 15's, the willwood setup that Kamracing offer looks very good, gets good reviews, and will probably be my choice.

I've got Braided hoses and racing fluid as well. I suppose the best thing is to see how i get on and make an informed decision rather than jumping in.

I saw a Willwood setup out the box for sale in the classifieds for £700, thought it wasn't to expensive.

It is too expensive for the performance increase over what's been suggested above.

If you want them for looks, then £700 might not be too much.

As said, HCs, good pads, fluid and a fresh bleed, I've personally never needed any more than that.

When you look at it, £700 for something that isn't REALLY needed is allot of money, £700 will get you a good 5/6 full track days!

I've run these for nearly 3 years now. Great stopping power once up to temp, and so much better looking than the standard 1*2 set-up.

Like said above though braided lines, HC discs, DS2500 pads and you've got a good set-up

Not at all fussed about looks. Good point made about the trackdays

It really all depends on how serious you're going to get about your Clio tbh. I'm going to get them because it's being supercharged and I'm planning to keep it as a long term track car, so it's worthwhile for me.

By no means are they needed and, to be honest, they're overkill on a clio...but I love mine!

This seems to be what everyone that has them says.... and tbh, It's the same with anything on a Clio, there's plenty of things that aren't necessary that people do, and love.

just make sure the pads are fitted correctly (ie free to move in the caliper) i'll put up pics of what happens to the pads if you don't grind down the back plate)
