42" 1080P which one??

I'm after a new TV for my love pad, 42 incher with 1080p for around the £800-£900 mark...

What suggestions have you got?

I think i'd maybe go plasma if I didn't use my xbox through it, but it looks nicer through LCD

If you have got loads of standard def stuff, tv, DVD player etc then plasma is surely the way to go, but then again why bother getting into HD tv if you havn't got HD sources

panasonic for a plasma (plasma is much better in my opinion)

if you want a 1080p lcd, go sony 40w3000 (hard to find atm) it may be over your buget a little but its the only lcd worth having. Otherwise plasma is the way.

avoid:

LG, Philips, (any cheap makes) Samsung R88 unless using a home theatre kit (going to upset alot of people saying that) the samsung m86 is much better, and 1080p.

Sharp are good, tosh are alright, but the new range is in the midsts of coming out so might be worth waiting as the 3030 isnt the be all and end all of 1080p tv's.

personally i think the new lcd's can do very very good blacks

how many plasmas support 10bit colour and hdmi 1.3 ??

It would be really nice to see a good 1080p comparison (visual) then between the two types of sets. Showing what one can do better than the other etc, it seems like such a strange grey area, and you never get a proper idea in shops etc

I genuinely don't like how plasma's look, like how you can see the individual pixels, bit like an old crt type thing. I know what I mean anyway hehe, it's like it's showing behind a type of grid. I've not seen any brand new ones really, so they might look different, just my experience.

The LCD seems to just have no protection (grid jobby lol), so I feel it looks alot nicer with good resolution. I guess the downside to this is the blurring type effect you get on standard transmissions, which is frustrating

Thats the TH42PZ70PED, the TH42PZ7WALL is the one that is wall mountable i think.... well it used to be on the lower model... and TH42PZ70CAB is the one with the floor stand... and most expensive...

i have tried cheap 1080p sets before and they are usually very very bad build quality hd image may be alright but it will break quickly

Wharfedale speakers are made by Wharfedale. Unfortunately they have sold the license for the name, so tellys etc. are just the cheapest crap going.

I've got a big Samsung plasma but the PSU is too noisy for me. The sound is poor too, so I use separate speakers, but then there is a lag between the TV audio out and the picture. Not good.

Hmm, I do tend to analyse stuff quite a bit to be fair, and it's nice to sit close sometimes hehe

I have a 37" LCD and sit about 2.5 metres away, I think thats just a nice size really
