4K Rattle, Vibration SOLVED!!!

Ive had my 172 for a year now and ever since ive had it, it has had the 4K vibration!

I have search for solutions on here and they all seem to say its the center section of the exhaust.

Read on.........
An hour ago i took my car to a mates garage and put it up on a ramp. With me hitting the center section of the exhaust and my mate holding various parts of the exhaust, heat shields and cables. We soon found that the cable that is connected to the second Lambda sensor (the one after the cat) was vibrating against the underside of the car.

There was also marks on the car where it had been rattling / vibrating against.

With my mate and the rest of the garage saying that thats the problem, i still wasnt convinced after reading posts on here about the center section of the exhaust needing to be replaced.

When i got home i got an 8 inch piece of split conduit and put it on the lambda sensor cable, which runs above the heat shield.

Took it for a quick drive and there was no rattle or vibration any where in the rev range!!

Problem solved for me! Let me know if this works for any of you guys.

Pics would be good, not sure if the 182 sufferes the same as the 172 but I get a rattle/vibration noise at about the 3k mark I pretty sure its coming from the cat area.
I have recently changed to a stainless steel system from the cat back, thinking the noise might go if it was the exhaust but to my joy it is still there so really could only be the cat...

it was really hard to try and locate the sound when in the car. All i could tell was that it was in the front some where lol

Thats exactly the same with me mate im just assuming its the cat because its coming from the front area somewhere...

I will get some pics tomorrow or saturday. Saturday will probably be easier as the car will be jacked up to fit my new suspension and goodridge lines :rasp:

if you look under your car from the passengers side you should be able to see a plug under the car, the wire then goes the second lambda sensor. I put the conduit on just by reaching under it, didnt bother jacking it up.

I had the rattle but it turned out it was the rear heat shield. I had somehow sheared 2 off its bolts off and was knocking on the back box.

Had the same 4k rattle, fixed for me by changing the exhaust springs clamping the CAT to the downpipe. Not heard it since.

Less than £20 from stealers, it's worth trying

i had really bad rattling, turned out all the baffle in the mid section (or whtever it is) had all broken lol.
Just got a full ss system and this sorted it
