What would you think to a 3.5 year old car that has had 5 owners?

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/643569.htm

Very well written advert, bloke seems very genuine.
It does need the 48k service but seems to have been looked after VERY well and in good condition.

What would it be worth?
Should I be bothered about the high number of owners> I plan to keep it for about 20 months initially ( no jokes :p) until I'm 21 so will average out the owner:age ratio, and only do about 5/6k miles per year so it will be more average miles.
Should I be worried about the shocks failing, rebuilds being around £500 so I'm told?

all vehicles who trades in trophys, he has sold 65 of em has a one owner car 50000 miles fsh for 7500.

Unless it was a lot cheaper, i wouldn't bother tbh.

We have already struck up some kind of deal over the phone.
I also have a private plate to use on the car, so the T6PHY would be sold on for however much is reasonable to recoup some money on it.

It is more than I can technically afford as I will have to go into my overdraft a bit to 'afford it'. But only £1k into the overdraft, which will be paid off within 2 months of buying it.

What do people think?
I like it, it's local-ish, clearly been very well looked after.

What draws me to it is excellent tyres, brakes, MOT and tax.

I'd think f**k that. 5 owners says problem car to me, i'd keep on looking. I'm not sure i'd want a trophy now they're all getting towards 3 years+ old tbh anyway. Any suspension problems and its just a recipe for £££ (if you wanted to keep the sachs setup).

Do you know anything about trophy's???

Look at several as there are some real munters out there.

5 owners in 3 years, no thanks, when you come to sell 6 owners in 4 years.

Don't alarm bells start ringing????

Plate whatever someone is willing to pay, not much.

Rebuilds are about £280 for the pair, so long as not mullered.

I'd say I know a reasonable amount about them yes.
Munters in what way, surely ti would juyst be check the usual bits on a 182, then check the shocks are OK?

It does, but the car was pre-reg'd, and the current owner has only had it for a few months driving 700 miles so that makes it more understandable to me.

What would you say it is worth?

Munter in the way that its probably a friday afternoon car and has had problem after problem hence the large ammount of owners in a short time. I'd say its not worth looking at.

On one hand it might be fine, on the other it might be like DrRollo's old 172.

My car is 8 years old, im owner 10, it wouldn't bother meas a car like that may have been bought by people as a toy/weekend thing.

  ITB'd MK1
I wouldn't panic, kind of car (special/limited edition) that gets bought to say you've had one rather than you really want to live with one for most people IMO, so most owners wont hang on to it for too long

  Titanium 182
I wouldn't worry about the owners tbh. At least one is probably a garage ?
Its the dampers i'd worry about.

If i was getting a trophy id be checking them as best i could without taking them off the car tbh!!!

I personally would have no issues in buying that car provided I was happy with the history and condition.

People don't care about number of owners anymore.

Saturday just gone I sold a BMW on a 53 plate that had had 6 previous owners. 7 By the time the bloke gets his logbook back!

Judge the car on its own merits, not whats written on the V5.

i see no problem in that, as said these things are more of a weekend car than a commute, so 5 owners seems fine in a way.

with 5 prev owners, might someone on here recognise it?

it's a risk and, whilst the advert does inspire some sort of confidence, i'd still be wary. i didn't follow this basic advice when buying mine (was under pressure to buy one within a week for personal reasons) and bought a cosmetically tidy car that had had a few previous owners and has subsequently cost me quite a lot of money (mechanical bother).

it's a lot of money and, if you're not in a rush, i'd probably let it go unless you can find out more about its history. that is a personal view based on a recent experience - other people's will be different.

This is my mates car for sale & its spot on!
The first owner was a pre-reg with Renault, my mate got it as he missed his Cup so much.
As has just been said, he's a petrolhead, hence it being his SECOND car & went for a Trophy because of it being so highly regarded by the likes of evo magazine.

I went with him to buy this, everything is in great condition & he always looks after his cars plus its got a well documented history.
It is most certainly not a 'friday' car, its in bloody great condition, ive already got a bet with him he will regret selling it but his insurance is due soon & because hes only doing like 200 miles PER MONTH he reckons he may as well save some money & buy something a bit more special sometime next year.

As I said pepsi, given that one owner cars with 12 month warranty and new tyres are going at £7295, with all servicing done, it's overpriced. Had the service been done, it's worth £7295. Without it, 7k. You could buy the one from allvehicles blind, and it will be a minter, the guy just doesn't do rough ones.

As said by sensible people, owners are irrelevent these days, people like me chop and change there car regularly The days of somone keeping are car for 3years are long since gone, especially in the performance sector.

My meggy 225 had 4 owners in 12mths, perfectly reasonable explanation and I had no issues selling!

Sure the owners on cliotrophy, have a look if there's been any prv posts regarding issues with the car

The number of owners is a little concerning but not a deal breaker, it's been serviced more times in three years than most get in there whole lives and it is listed over on CT so you can check the history. No problem.

I think i'd be looking at others for the money really. I know that cars do change hands quite often. I am fully aware of that, but having said that, I am still a bit wary of cars with quite a few owners in a short space of time.

Number of owners never bothered me, think I was the 5th or 6th owner when I bought my Clio (it had around 33k on the clock and was just over 4 years old).

3.5 years on and it's just about to hit 84k and has been great :)

The number of owners wouldn't bother me in the slightest, I had a Zetec S for abit which had 5 owners, on paper that sounds high for a y plater, however on closer inspection 3 of these were in the same family and it was a pre -reg. Don't judge a book by its cover!

i wouldnt touch it...you will stuggle to sell it on as you will have been the 6th owner...

Yea tbf i wouldnt touch a 5 owner car thats 3 years old. It doesnt say problem car to me, but 5 different people with 5 different styles of ragging a car will surely mean issues later on down the line.

Mine is just over 3 years old now and the first owner had it for 7 months and I have had it ever since as the second owner.

Apart from the high miler on allvehicles, where have you seen these cars?

Ive not seen any going for 7 (apart from yours which was sold cheaply as you needed to get shot... )
