50,000 miles+? ? ?

  133/225/CLS AMG
Right guys, would you part with £2-3k for a Clio with more than 50k on the clock?

I know Renault set the service intervals to 18k on the phase IIs and I know its cambelt changed at 5 years or 70k(?).

Question is, would you part with your cash for a 1.2 or 1.4 Clio with that many miles on it? Are these engines good for 100k?

My Clio RT has 76k on the clock but cost me under a grand so if that gave out I wouldn't mind.

I know if I was selling my 51 plate 1.2 Expression with 65K on the clock I would be asking for £2.5k.

Engine is still as good as ever RR'd at 75.4BHP.

will be ok, providing it has been looked after, Full Service History with all the paperwork.... & so on....

my dynamique is on 72k, i would be looking for about £2.8k if i were to sell up

i dont see any problem with having a 1.2/1.4 with 50k+

its been said before but 'its how it got there'

Some engines go pop at 20k, some engines fly past 150k... Can't guarantee a shiney new rebuild won't drop a valve tomorrow...

Cheers guys.

Been looking around and there are some examples under 40k so obviously wear and tear round the car will be minimal but there's no examples that jump out at me.

Ideally would like a black 1.2 Dynamique, look smart and have plenty of creature comforts! :D

Tbh 50,000 miles isn't much on a modern engine imo as long as it has been reasonably looked after. I know of at least one 1.4 engine from a MK1 Clio (E7J) that was still going strong over 200k miles till someone broke the car for bits.

I ve had 2x ph2 1.2 16v Clios, one was a 2001 and the other a 2002, the former was as good as gold, never had a single problem with it. The 2002 was a complete dog, you name it, it had it, all the common problems etc.
The 2001 had full service history and had clearly been 'loved', there were a few little marks but nothing serious. I ran it for a year, stuck 10k on it and sold it for a little more than I payed for it (effectively broke even due to servicing etc).
The 2002 did have service history although personally I reckon the book had just been stamped all the way through, lack of receipts and pretty much had a ding or mark on every panel. You could just tell that it hadn't been looked after.

What am I trying to conclude is buy something that has been looked after, has full service history, loads of receipts, they know there way around a car. You see cars advertised on autotrader that haven't even been washed for the photo, f**k that idea off.
Regardless of the manufacturer get one thats been looked after and you shouldn't have too many problems.

My 2001 Clio was spot on at 60k when I sold it, 10k of thrashing (once warm) and careful servicing had done it the world of good, returned the best mpg it ever had and was quick nippy, floor it in 5th and it would climb all the way to an indicated 110, the engine was very nicely run in.

That is exactly the principle I've applied to my last two runabouts! You wouldn't have found a more mint Renault 5 than my 1.4 Campus and that was great, my Clio RT I have now has been great too. Only the usual wear and tear parts you'd expect.

I just want something newer and something I can give a detail too and be pretty spotless!!

You should be fine then, cambelt at 5yrs old is the main thing on the 1.2 16v.
If the SERV + Airbag like is on wiggle the wires under the passenger seat.
And they all have a little bit of mayo under the oil filler cap, aslong as its not in the expansion tank its nothing to worry about they all do it due to short journeys.
