500 for a 172 ICE upgrade

  2008 Golf GTI Edition 30

If you had 500quid to upgrade a mk2 172s ICE, what would you do?

I wanna keep the steering wheel controls, so will need the HU to utilise them.

I have a 10" pioneer sub that Id want to keep in there, just needs a new amp to drive it.

So, 500 quid, go spend and then give me the break down.

Change the head first.....and you can still keep the stalk controls...just get a converter lead. Most new hus are 40/60w per channel so all youll need is a mono amp to drive the sub. Then depending how much you have left change the speakers. not up to date with what to buy tho...but sure there will be others here to give you what to buy.

happy hunting.

If it was me i would purchase an alpine 9812/13 + stalk adaptor £280

then spend the rest on front speakers

hmm that sounds like an option.

Is there any way to use the existing 6cd changer with the alpines? or do I loose the use of that?

Same here !! The 9813/15 isnt worth the extra IMO just stick to the 9812 and get replacement components for the front !!

You loose it but you gain mp3/wma

Yup get an Alpine and adaptor then spend the rest on components then when money allows get a 10"sub (like a VIBE Active) takes up no space and makes a bigger difference than you can imagine!

bambam, the alpine 98** have a aux input??? How abouts would i go connecting that then? Will the lead from behind the HU go round the dash and come out somewhere from the footwell?!
