50mm 1.8 or swap to a 1.4??

i already own a canon 50mm 1.8 and love the results it provides but would a bit of a upgrade to the 1.4 warrant the extra cash or in the hands of a amateur would you not really tell the diffrence.
i suppose basically would the .4 diffrence give a dramatic change in the dof?
what do you guys have a 1.8 or 1.4???

I have the 1.8 and I bloody love it. I'd have the 1.4 if I could afford it though.

Get what you can afford, the 1.4 is much sharper and like you say gives better bokeh and DOF.

Buy the 1.4 because you want better AF and build quality, I wouldn't expect a noticeable change in IQ or massive difference in DoF.

For Canon yes but one is built like a McDonalds happy meal toy and the other has Micro USM that can full time manual focus

yeah i had a good play with it last night and had a go a copying jj's tic tac photo only had cherry ones though
no retouching just as it came out.....
