54mm/52mm mounting? mk1? HELP

  MK2 PH2 & E46 330
hey. looking at suspension kits for my car.

i realise you buy either 54mm ot 52mm mounting ones. i have no idea which is mine!?

can sumone tell me?

i have a N reg 1.2 clio prima mk1. 5 dr.

thanks clever clio people

i had a problem getting the right shocks when i needed to replace mine

(a job that started off as replacing the springs ended up in a 2 whole new struts including shocks, springs, bearings etc, just cos the bolts on the old shocks were seized in the engine bay. wasn't pleased, anyway, back to ur question...)

if i remember rightly, they changed the spacing from 52 to 54 around october 91 or 92 i believe, you can check with a renault stealer, give em a ring and ask parts what the spacing is for your car, he'll be able to find the date of manufacture from your reg.

samg1988 - yours could be either 52mm or 54mm. The only way to be 100% sure is to go out and measure it. Turn the wheel onto full lock and you should be able to get in beind the wheel to meaure the gap between the two bolts that hold the strut to the hub. Make sure you measure it accurately as 2mm isn't much and can easily be measured incorectly. The distance is either 52mm or 54mm from the centre of each bolt to the centre of the other.

Btw, are you the guy who was posting on here a while ago from edinburgh? No reason but just wondered if you are the same guy or if I got the usernames mixed up.

tim125 - yes, all valvers are 54mm.
